Spanish photography is going through a very special moment: an ac-celerated transformation process.The economical crisis, decline of institutions, the self-management, the internet and the social networks, cheap flights, the rise of the pho-tobooks and self-publishing...

All these factors are creating a generation of photographers that com-municate and develop their work through alternative routes, out of an outdated system that is worn out, a punk philosophy of, as we say in Spanish “yo me lo guiso, yo me lo como” (literally I cook it, I eat it; meaning that I can do everything on my own).This talk explores this special environment and its main characters, talking about the most powerful initiatives that are being set out right now. We will also analyse which collectives, publications and authors stand out, both inside and outside of Spain, and how they have chan-neled their work through this media.

# A stable market based on speculation and supported by the investment of public institutions. La Fábrica and other galleries, Photoespaña. The young art movements across institutional prizes and galleries.

# The cultural politics in the transition to democracy. Photographers such as Chema Madroz, Alberto García-Alix, Isabel Muñoz, Ouka Leele or Cristina García Rodero, which dominate the market and the external sales, backed by the press and museums.

# This system revolves around the sale of unique copies, while photography books are produced mainly for exhibition catalogs.

# It has gone down the drain with the economical crisis as there is no art market based on private investment in Spain.

# Institutions don’t take risks and they don’t encourage young photographers (there are some exceptions). They are very disconnected from the present photography world, they are stuck.
