Every so often, there are a bunch of things going on that need to be or should be mentioned or updated, so here you go….
Sound System – We’re received the required three bids for a new sound system in the church which will include a hearing loop for those who need an extra bit of auditory assistance. John Ligda is currently in the process of reviewing these (both of us met with reps from the three bidders) and then we’ll ask the Archdiocesan Office of Facilities and Construction to review them and ensure that any contract we sign has all the ―t’s‖ crossed and all the ―i’s‖ dotted. We still hope to have this work done by Christmas, and none of it will have any significant impact on the use of the church during the installation process.
New Furniture – No, we didn’t redecorate the rectory—at least we didn’t pay for anything. Thanks to Deacon George Maddock and the assisted living facility in Homer Glen where he ministers each week we have a beautiful new conference table and comfy chairs in the north meeting room of the Burke Center (where the RCIA and a few other meetings take place) and several settees to replace worn-out pieces in the rectory basement. Some of the new chairs will also replace falling-apart chairs in the rectory basement meeting room. And the new chairs in the Burke Center have al-lowed us to replace the rickety chairs in the Cry Room—which, by the way, is for families with small children, not adults—with stur-dier ones. It was this same Homer Glen facility that gave us all the tables and chairs in the new Tolton Meeting Room in the school. And all of this was free!
Kid and Family-Friendly efforts – You might notice a new item in the Sunday bulletin: a coloring page for young children which relates to the Sunday readings. There are also longer, booklet ver-sions for coloring which will be on the tables in the rear of church each week. These aren’t meant to replace the important work of parents helping their children learn to pray at Mass, but an added catechetical component that can help children use their imagina-tions to connect a coloring page with the scriptures. And at some point, we hope to implement a suggestion of our Parish Pastoral Council and designate one or two pews in the rear of the church for families with children who are too old to remain in the Cry Room but might still require a quick exit for a small tantrum or a bathroom break.

Those who wish to attend individual sessions just need to call in ad-
vance of the session in which they’re interested, so that the pre-
senter for that night can have enough handouts for everyone, 708-
798-0622.
So those are all the ―this and that‖ items for now. There will surely be others down the road, some of which will be prompted by the ―comment cards‖ many of you filled out this past spring while others will be generated from the conversations that take place and the recommendations that are made at our Parish Pas-toral Council meetings.

St. John Paul II had a deep devotion to
our Mother Mary. He even believed she
diverted the bullet meant to take his
life on May 13, 1981, 64 years to the
day after Our Lady of Fatima’s first ap-
pearance in Fatima Portugal. It is also
acknowledged by John Paul II and the
Vatican that he is thought to be the
―Bishop in White‖ prophesied by our
Lady that would be slain along with
other bishops and faithful after ascend-
ing a mountain and reaching a wooden
cross at its summit. In spite of the
prophesy, the Bishop in White survived.
It was told to the children of Fatima
that through prayer and penance for
the sins of mankind we would be
spared God’s wrathful judgment. That
the future is truly in our hands.
In this context and being led in prayer
with a rosary given to a local resident
by St. John Paul II, you are invited to
join in praying a rosary for peace and
God’s mercy. on Sunday October 13, at
3pm, the 102nd anniversary of Our
Lady of Fatima’s last appearance, we
will join in prayer at the Flossmoor
Planned Parenthood, located at 19831
Governors Hwy. Using St. John Paul II’s
gifted rosary we will pray for peace in
the womb and in the hearts of expec-
tant mothers, peace among people of
our country and peace between na-
tions. Please join us in answering
Mary’s call for Prayer and Penance.

4 BREAST CANCER SIGNS YOU SHOULD KNOW by Dr. Joseph John Weber
Most women know they should periodically check their breasts for lumps.
The presence of unexpected lumps can sometimes be a sign of breast can-
cer. But finding an unexpected lump isn’t the only symptom of cancer
women should be aware of. There are what we know as atypical symptoms
that every woman should know about. Being aware of these symptoms, in
addition to completing self-exams for lumps, can increase your chances of
noticing possible cancer symptoms early. Early detection is an important
element of successfully treating cancer. If you have any questions about
changes in your breasts, check with your health care professional.
Here are four additional cancer symptoms all women should be aware of:
A rash or dimpling of the breast skin: The skin may feel scaly or thicker
than your skin does otherwise. It might dimple and, in some cases, the
skin may take on the texture of an orange peel.
Swelling of the breast: This could be the outward appearance of a lump
that can change the shape or size of the breast. The swelling may result
in discomfort or pain in the swollen breast. About six percent of women in
a recent study reported breast swelling.
Nipple changes: The nipple can turn inward. This is called an inversion or
retraction. This can result from a growth in the breast changing its shape.
About seven percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer reported
nipple changes.
Nipple discharge: We’re talking about a discharge that is not milk. Fortu-
nately, most of the time, a discharge is not a sign of cancer. But if you
notice a discharge, it’s best to go see your health care provider.
Now, it’s important to point out that the presence of these symptoms does
not mean cancer is present, but noticing these signs does mean you should
promptly see your health care professional. Discuss the signs you notice
and when you noticed them.
Diagnosing breast cancer
Your health care provider can discuss options for determining if there may
be cancer tissue. That may include one or more of these tests:
Mammogram: This is an X-ray of the breast. A mammogram can often find a
lump before it can be felt. Ask your health care professional how often you
should have a mammogram.
Ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging tests: These tests can give your
health care professional more of a view of the breast tissue.
Biopsy: Your doctor will remove a small amount of breast tissue for inspec-
tion. This is the only sure way to tell if cancer is present. A pathologist will
analyze the tissue to verify that it is cancerous and determine the type of
cancer.
Breast tissue test: Tests such as the hormone receptor test and HER2/neu
test can help determine the best course of treatment if breast cancer is the
diagnosis.
If you haven’t already had a conversation with your health care professional
about your breast health, your next visit is a good time to start. Health eNews, August 21, 2019

World Mission Sunday Collection, October 19-20
Next Sunday, we celebrate WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
during this Extraordinary Mission Month. As Pope
Francis reminds us, ―Faith in Jesus Christ enables us
to see all things in their proper perspective, as we
view the world with God’s own eyes and Heart.‖
World Mission Sunday calls us to solidarity with com-
munities of faith that are young, struggling or eco-
nomically strained around the globe. Please pray for
our brothers and sisters in faith and be generous in next week’s collection for
the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

October, 2019
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Love for God's people and the mission entrusted to us as disciples stands at
the heart of Renew My Church. Each October on World Mission Sunday, we join
with the Church across the globe in joyful response to the call to "go into the
whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature" (Mk16:15).This year,
the Holy Father, Pope Francis calls for an Extraordinary Mission Month through-
out the month of October in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Apos-
tolic Letter Maximum Illud which, "sought to give new impetus to the missionary
task of proclaiming the Gospel."
In calling for this Extraordinary Mission Month, the Holy Father invites us to
transcend national boundaries in these troubled times in our world , bearing
witness ―to God's saving will through the Church's universal mission." The
World Mission Sunday collection, celebrated worldwide on October 20, sup-
ports the efforts of over 1,000 economically poor dioceses to provide spiritual
and material aid to people across Africa, Asia, and remote areas of Latin Amer-
ica and the Pacific Islands. Recipient churches and congregations also bring
hope to people facing poverty, violent conflict, and displacement in the Middle
East, Northeast Africa, India and Eastern Europe.
In honor of the Holy Father's call to renewed fervor for the Church’s universal
mission, every parish engaged in works of solidarity and charity with our global
neighbors are invited to join the diverse community of Archdiocese of Chicago
in a Mass of Thanksgiving for missionaries next Sunday, October 27 at St. Fer-
dinand Church beginning at 5:00p.m. Together we will give thanks for the local
parishes that are dedicated to the Catholic Church's world mission.
It is my prayer that each parish is inspired to embrace World Mission Sunday as
an opportunity to join with the global Church in making disciples throughout our
world, as we are called to do during the Renew My Church process. May our
witness inspire others in our Chicago community, especially young people, to
embrace the call to love and follow Christ. With every good wish, I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Archbishop of Chicago
