STORAGE

FOSS and IBM offer a portfolio of information security solutions based on its innovative self-encrypting disk and tape drives. These drives are designed to encrypt data automatically as it enters the drive to be stored, and then automatically decrypt it as it moves out of the drive. The embedded data encryption engine helps to ensure that there is no performance degradation compared to the non-encrypting drives. This drive-level data encryption

approach reduces the risk that information could be compromised when storage media are physically removed from the storage systems

ACCESS CONTROL

FOSS collaborates with Paxton Access Control systems which allow the control of one or many doors in a building. Access is gained by using a numeric code, or PIN with a keypad, by presenting a proximity or magstripe token. PC based access control offers central control, via a network. This means that commands given at

the PC are sent to each of the doors. A token can be barred from all of the doors instantly. Another benefit of this type of system is flexible control, allowing you to grant different permissions for individuals or groups of users.

Reports may also be generated to see who went where and when. Many systems allow control of additional buildings via existing LAN/WAN. PC based systems are increasingly being used to control other services within buildings, for example intruder alarms, fire doors, elevators and lighting.

DIGITAL MOBILE RADIO

FOSS teamed up with Motorola for the MOTOTRBO line of DMRs. MOTOTRBO is re-mastering digital two-way communications – and redefining what customers expect from a radio solution. With the MOTOTRBO portfolio of portable and mobile radios, repeaters, data applications, accessories, software and services, you can put the right device into the hands of the right user.

More than a progressive portfolio, MOTOTRBO is a complete and expertly integrated solution of portable radios, mobile radios, repeaters, data applications, accessories, software and services.

MOTOTRBO allows its users to:

Increase efficiency and productivity within their work force Better communicate and make decisions which lead to a superior outcome Stay connected everywhere they go instantly and efficiently Focus on the safety solution, not the poor communication or unreliable radio

being used Transform their enterprise into a safe, secure and well integrated environment

IP TV

FOSS, together with Exterity offer IP TV solutions for institutions as well. IP TV allows users in the education system to gain information, news, entertainment, and foreign language TV and radio which is streamed across an existing IP address to any systems on the network.

There are three main problems that organizations face today with respect to Wi-Fi: integration, interference and scalability. With the rise of Wi-Fi-enabled devices of all shapes and sizes, operators have been forced to deploy disparate networks — each of which has its own set of complex backend systems — to address the need for more capacity and coverage. Meanwhile, interference combined with constant changes in the radio frequency (RF) environment make it difficult for companies to address Wi-Fi problems. Finally Wi-Fi has widely been considered ill equipped to provide the scale, reliability and consistent performance to service a growing universe of data-hungry users hitting corporate and provider networks. RUCKUS WI FI SOLUTION

Ruckus invented its “Smart Wi-Fi” technology to bring

increased capacity, performance and reliability to unlicensed Wi-Fi environments. The company has

developed and patented numerous RF technology breakthroughs such as miniaturized, software-controlled, adaptive antenna arrays. These innovations enable Wi-Fi signals to be formed, focused and directed by choosing the best performing signal paths, enabling optimal performance and reliability. Ruckus has also introduced purpose-built products and platforms that give carriers unmatched scale of Wi-Fi services, allowing them to easily integrate Wi-Fi as strategic radio access network (RAN) options within their existing mobile service offering. Ruckus Wireless is a pioneer in the wireless infrastructure market, enabling carriers and enterprises to stay ahead of the exploding demand for high-bandwidth applications and services. The Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi technology redefines what’s

possible in wireless network performance with flexibility, reliability, and affordability. Ruckus calls this Pervasive Performance. • Adaptive Signal Control • Interference Mitigation • Capacity-driven Channel Assignment • Dynamic Polarization Diversity • Maximized Signal Strength • Network Capacity Optimization Ruckus can provide all of the components necessary to deliver Pervasive Performance. It all starts with patented Smart Wi-Fi technology and its unique ability to extract unmatched capacity and reliability out of the 802.11 standards. Smart Wi-Fi leverages high-gain adaptive antenna technology and sophisticated best-path-selection algorithms to form and direct Wi-Fi signals over the highest performance paths to each and every client. With this technology, Ruckus is able to do something that basic wireless technology can't - deliver longer range and more reliable Wi-Fi connections to client devices; Wi-Fi that reaches farther and is inherently more stable due to the adaptive nature and control of our technology. Smart Wi-Fi constantly steers signals around obstructions and obstacles, mitigates interference, and focuses RF energy only where it's needed to ensure unprecedented coverage and consistent performance at longer ranges.

RUCKUS TECHNOLOGY At the heart of all Ruckus products is Smart Wi-Fi technology developed to solve these problems. Smart Wi-Fi is a collection of patented technology breakthroughs such as: adaptive RF control (BeamFlex), predictive channel selection (ChannelFly), resilient and self-optimized meshing (SmartMesh), automatic user device configuration (Zero IT config) and dynamic Wi-Fi security (Dynamic pre-shared keys). Integrated within Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi systems, these technologies deliver reliable and predictable performance for supporting the most challenging applications. BeamFlex adapts Wi-Fi signals to interference conditions to deliver predictable performance at greater ranges. It also reduces dead spots, increasing the range and performance of the Wi-Fi network up to 300 percent. High-gain directional antennas provide up to 9dBi of antenna gain and 17dB of interference rejection.

Highly sensitive antenna elements also deliver the industry’s most sensitive Wi-Fi receiving capabilities. BeamFlex allows long-range reception of Wi-Fi signals down to -100 dBm. This results in some of the most reliable Wi-Fi systems available today.

SmartMesh Networking changes the fundamental economics of WLAN deployment. SmartMesh Networking uses Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi and expert RF routing technologies to create long-range, reliable and adaptive Wi-Fi trunk connections between mesh APs, eliminating having to cable Ethernet to all APs.

RUCKUS PRODUCT RANGE

Ruckus offers a large range of access points to cover your very specific needs: from indoor to outdoor and mesh access points, from the most affordable to the very latest of the technology.

ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi Access Points

ZoneFlex, Ruckus’ flagship line of indoor-outdoor wireless LAN products, delivers the industry’s first

centrally controlled Smart WLAN system with support for adaptive antenna technology. ZoneFlex fills a market gap between high-end, costly and complex WLAN switching systems and cheap, low-end consumer-grade solutions.

ZoneFlex is a simple yet feature-rich WLAN system designed specifically for enterprises needing an easy-to-use Wi-Fi system that is reliable and extensible. ZoneFlex combines smart antenna array technology, wireless meshing and advanced security features at a low total cost of ownership.

Designed for simplicity and ease of use, the ZoneFlex line includes high-density ZoneFlex 802.11a/ac/b/g/n Smart Wi-Fi APs and the ZoneDirector line of Smart LAN controllers for managing from six to 10,000 APs. ZoneFlex delivers strong security, reliable Wi-Fi performance, QoS, extended range, and unmatched multimedia support.

801.11ac technology

11ac is a 5 GHz only technology, focusing where unlicensed spectrum is both abundant and generally very clean. Building on existing functionality from 802.11n, the major data rate gains of 802.11ac come (theoretically) from simple protocol extensions like wider channels, more spatial streams, and more efficient modulation. Though the industry is optimistic, real-world gains for enterprises may not match the marketing.

Next-generation Wi-Fi can be a challenge—a product upgrade with limited gains—or an opportunity to enhance business productivity. An optimized 802.11ac infrastructure will depend on solid wireless fundamentals, thoughtful radio design, smart antenna systems, and dynamic RF adaptation. Ruckus technologies focus in the right direction by making your 802.11ac upgrade worthwhile; we optimize connections, maximize capacity, and reduce cost at the same time.

Page 16: FOSS Solutions for Education Sector

Ruckus WLAN systems brings power and simplicity together for large-scale indoor deployments — along with all the requisite capabilities demanded:

Seamless interoperability Advanced Wi-Fi security Massive scalability Best-in-class performance Robust WLAN management

ZoneFlex outdoor access points uniquely combine adaptive antenna technology and adaptive meshing to enable a new level of outdoor performance at a low cost. Built to withstand the harshest of outdoor conditions, they’re designed with the flexibility to function as standalone APs or as managed devices, using the same wireless controller as their indoor Smart Wi-Fi counterparts. If no Ethernet cabling is available, the outdoor AP meshes seamlessly with the indoor access points. Unprecedented 802.11n performance enables connections of 150Mbps or more between mesh nodes at distances of up to 300 meters or more. Unlike other outdoor Wi-Fi device today, it provides advanced interference mitigation to ensure the highest resilience for both client and inter-node mesh connections.

ZoneDirector Smart Wi-Fi Controllers, SmartZone Software Platform and SmartCell Gateway

Ruckus delivers two software platforms that are complimentary and address different needs of our customers:

The ZoneDirector software platform delivers a rich Wi-Fi feature set. It best addresses the needs of small to medium on-premise WiFi deployments.

The SmartZone software platform provides carrier-class performance, form factor flexibility, and high-performance WiFi that can scale as an enterprise or a service provider grows.

Ruckus Smart Positioning Technology - SPoT™ - combines unique advantages, including options for both public and private cloud-based services, and a choice of location metrics with either SPoT Point (drop-pin) or SPoT Presence (proximity). Enterprise or Managed Service providers can use the SPoT APIs to incorporate location data into their own applications. A robust ecosystem of partners provides additional leverage of SPoT for applications in retail, transportation, entertainment and other vertical markets.

Ruckus SPoT can be purchased either as a cloud-based subscription service or as Virtual SPoT [vSPoT], a virtualized instance of the service deployed on-premise. vSPOT works with VMWare to deliver presence or location services from Enterprise or Service Provider data centers.

Both versions of SPoT include Engagement APIs — a set of APIs to power a new generation of mobile apps, giving them “Location Intelligent” features such as the ability to locate users and engage or send them highly targeted messages in any

venue enabled with Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi and Ruckus SPoT.

Both versions of SPoT offer two levels of service.

SPoT Point can pinpoint client locations in real time with a granularity of 5-8 meters accuracy with a calibrated venue. In addition, SPoT Point has a calibration-free mode which supports ~10 meters accuracy without the requirement of venue calibration.

SPoT Presence services provide venues with low access point density with footfall analytics and device positioning at proximity accuracies.

Key Advantages of Ruckus SPoT Technology:

Virtually unlimited scale for device positioning True real-time positioning Listens to probes and data packets to locate all devices Multi-venue single dashboard Up and running within a day for any venue size

Using RF fingerprinting, Ruckus SPoT is capable of better pinpointing the location of devices, depending on the number and density of access points used.

AXIS TECHNOLOGIES

Lightfinder technology: Lightfinder technology is a combination of Axis’

expertise in image processing, in-house system-on-chip development and selection of the best optical components. Cameras with Axis’ Lightfinder

technology have extreme light sensitivity. Such cameras can deliver color images in as little light as 0.18 lux or lower.

Compared with any analog or network cameras, the Lightfinder technology will give more life-like colors in low-light conditions. The noise reduction of the Lightfinder technology is vastly improved compared with any surveillance camera on the market, which in combination with the light sensitivity of the sensor gives a superior image quality.

4K Ultra HD: Axis offers a comprehensive portfolio of 4K Ultra HD, HDTV- and megapixel network cameras. 4K Ultra HD provides up to four times higher resolution than standard HDTV 1080p resolution. 4K Ultra HD uses the 16:9 format. Defined by SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers), the most important standard is SMPTE ST 2036-1UHDTV.

Wide Dynamic Range: Wide dynamic range is a feature in some Axis network cameras that handles a wide range of lighting conditions in a scene. In a scene with extremely bright and dark areas or in backlight situations where a person is in front of a bright window, a typical camera would produce an image where objects in the dark areas would hardly be visible. WDR solves this by applying various techniques to enable objects in both bright and dark areas to be visible.

OptimizedIR: Axis’ OptimizedIR technology is based on new, smart, power-efficient and patented LED technology. It is designed for easy, cost-efficient and environmental friendly installation. It results in high-quality, low-noise video, even when the environment is completely dark.

Electronic Image Stabilization: A surveillance camera mounted in an exposed location such as on a high pole or a street sign near a busy road, can be shaken by winds or passing traffic, which will blur the video. In these situations, Electronic image stabilization, a feature in Axis network cameras which greatly improves video quality in situations where a camera is subject to vibrations, provides smooth and comfortable live viewing.

Smarter Wi-Fi Fosters The Learning Experienceit’s a required course of action for education

Faster, more dependable Wi-Fi connectivity that’s affordable is fundamental. It must cover

large campuses, yet reach every small nook and cranny of a classroom. It must support

multimedia applications while providing secure connectivity for staff, students, and guests.

Limited budgets and IT staff mean that educators need a new approach. Ruckus passes

the test with lying colors.

dealing With High density

A major concern within the education market is

dealing with high density environments such as

lecture halls, gymnasiums, and theaters. With a

lood of Wi-Fi enabled devices simultaneously

accessing the wireless network, the Ruckus

ZoneFlex™ system is designed to provide a best-

in-class solution for supporting a high-capacity

of concurrent wireless users. Applying patented

adaptive antenna technology that gets users on

and off the Wi-Fi network quickly, this technology

is combined with capabilities including client load

balancing, airtime fairness, band steering, and

per user rate limiting to ensure hundreds of users

can access a single access point that delivers

reliable and fast Wi-Fi connectivity.

Combining adaptive antenna technology, band steering,

and airtime fairness makes Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi ideal for

high-density classroom environments giving students

reliable high-speed wireless network access.

Patented smart antenna arrays in every access point provides longer range and

more reliable Wi-Fi connections, requiring fewer APs than competitive alternatives.

campus coverage: Here, there, everywhere

Universities and colleges (state/community/

private) often encompass large properties with

multiple buildings. Getting reliable and complete

Wi-Fi coverage within every square foot of each

facility without deploying a huge number of

access points has been a real challenge. The

Ruckus ZoneFlex family of products delivers the

best possible Wi-Fi coverage using our patented

BeamFlex™ technology that directs signals

toward associated clients, picking the best

performing path and constantly mitigating inter-

ference. ZoneFlex delivers two to four times the

coverage using fewer APs, costing less money

and requiring less deployment time. Institutions

of higher learning may now deliver Wi-Fi to places

where it’s never been before — simply and easily.

no ethernet? no Problem

For many educational institutions, Ethernet is not ubiquitous. What

about portables, cafeterias, auditoriums and assembly halls? Unlike

other WLAN solutions, the Ruckus ZoneFlex system employs Smart

Mesh Networking, allowing schools to easily add Wi-Fi by simply

plugging them into a power outlet. This eliminates adding additional

Ethernet cabling and unnecessary expenses. An advanced smart

antenna array ensures unprecedented reliability for the mesh

backbone minimizing packet loss, steering signals over the fastest

paths, and increasing range between mesh nodes.
