John E. Price, Sr., District Chief with the Lincoln Parish Fire District #1 is the recipient of the Ruston Kiwanis 2018 Outstanding Firefighter of the Year Award. John is a lifelong resident of Lincoln Parish growing up in Simsboro, La. where he graduated from Simsboro High School in 1974. He and his wife Sue live in the Simsboro community and are members of the Antioch Methodist Church. They have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Following graduation John went to work at Duraflake South for a number of years before working in gasoline and oil product deliveries for Thurman Oil, Cavender Oil and Specialty Oil Products. In 1998 John was employed by Louisiana Tech University as bus driver for the athletic department, a job he currently holds and enjoys. John enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. District Chief Price began his volunteer firefighting career in 1976 when he took an interest in serving on the Simsboro Volunteer Fire Department. John served for sixteen years with the SVFD until 1992, at which time the Village of Simsboro elected to be incorporated into the newly formed Lincoln Parish Fire District #1. John continued to serve as a volunteer for the parish fire department, first serving as a Driver/Pump Operator and later was elected to serve as a Quadrant Chief by his fellow firefighters in the quadrant that encompassed the Simsboro area. John continues to serve as a volunteer District Chief, leading other volunteer firefighters with great compassion and an array of knowledge acquired from his years of service. John loves his job and especially being able to help people in their times of need. Lincoln Parish Fire Chief Kevin Reynolds states in his letter of recommendation: “District Chief Price has served Lincoln Parish for over forty-two years in the fire service. He has humbly volunteered thousands of hours responding to fires and other emergencies within our community”. Congratulations to District Chief John E.
