Wood Street Galleries 601 Wood St Ryoichi Kurokawa and Novi_Sad unfold.alt and constrained surface by Ryoichi Kurokawa [ unfold ] is an audiovisual installation that renders the star formation into an eight-minute looped tactile audiovisual composition composed of 3ch HD projection and 7.1ch surround sound. The scientific truth is temporally/spatially compressed into installation format and the viewer experience cosmic phenomenon as perceptible 3 dimensional audiovisual composition.

[ unfold.alt ] is a screening version of “unfold” which is originally developed as an installation. It contains 10 phases presented in reverse chronological order of stellar formation.

constrained surface exemplifies Kurokawa’s approach to art-making and his experimentation with the qualities of synaesthesia, a core part of his work. Synaesthesia, in medical terms, refers to a condition where a sensation in one of the senses triggers a sensation in another. constrained surface delivers a synaesthetic experience through its unison of light, colour, sound and movement as well as exploring the surprising possibilities of what can be experienced within the boundaries of a frame.

sirens by Ryoichi Kurokawa and Novi_SadSirens is an impressive body of work comprising five audiovisual pieces which explore the aesthetics of data. Sirens is a collection of digitally rendered visual formations and sound compositions, whose intensity fluctuates as in relation to the unfolding of the economic downturn.

SPACE 812 Liberty Ave The Long Run Guest Curated by Brandon Boan The Long Run: painting out of time – is an exhibition of contemporary painting. Through cultural sampling, mathematical amalgamations, and hybridized abstraction – seven artists present a working duration that attempts to respond to the surface of things.

Peirce Studio Trust Arts Education 5:30 – 8:30 pm Help create purposeful and unique fidgets for the world premiere of Cityscape, a performance for audiences on the autism spectrum. These fidgets will be for each participant to enjoy during the performance! The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s Arts Education Department will present Jumping Jack Theater’s premiere production of Cityscape in March for school groups and families. Cityscape features innovative puppetry, unique settings, and social skill and communication supports.

3th FloorTrust Arts Education featuring Randall Coleman | What Brings Us Together“What Brings Us Together” is an exhibit that showcases how human beings utilize common resources and skills to relate and learn from each other. The posed question will be answered throughout the exhibit through the use of photographs and activities, highlighting the many resources used to teach and create. The photos used in this exhibition include images from the Trust Arts Education Department’s 10-day arts and culture study seminar in Israel with Classrooms without Borders.

4th FloorCarnegie Library of Pittsburgh: REcollection Studio & Friends Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh believes that the community’s history and culture is important and worth preserving! The Library’s REcollection Studio supports the effective use and application of technology to preserve and share your family’s memories through a Do-It-Yourself model. Please join staff from the REcollection Studio at their table where you can learn about hardware, software, and documentation to digitize VHS tapes, audio cassette tapes, documents, photographs, slides, and negatives. The Carnegie Library’s Friends group will also be selling great, used books with a focus on art!

The show is comprised of a combination of work that exhibits the students’ exploration into the digital media art form. This expedition into the electronic world of art will continue to grow as new work is continually added to the exhibition over the duration of its showing.

This reception will be accompanied by two half-hour performances of North Indian Classical Music by Michael Griska at 6 and 7 pm.

Francis Cleetus interprets those tiny glimpses of life through his contemporary paintings, drawings and sculptures. All inspired by his real life experiences across three countries, multiple cultures and countless lives. A.A. creates paintings influenced by German Expressionism and abstract work, born of inspiration by people who create to live, as well as those who create to express ideas, opinions, and dogmas.
