FORMAL COMMANDS

There are two kinds of formal commands:

•Ud. Commands are used towards a single person in a formal tone.Sra. Guzmán, explíqueme la tarea, por favor.

•Uds. Commands are used towards a group of people. Pablo y Roberto, entréguenme los libros, por favor.

REGULAR VERBS

All Formal Commands are formed in the same way.• Verbos Regulares:

Conjugate in the yo formDrop the “o”Add the opposite ending • ar verbs use “e” for Ud. “en” for Uds.• er/ir verbs use “a” for Ud. “an” for Uds.

EXAMPLES OF REGULAR FORMAL COMMANDS

•Bailar : Baile, Ud. / Bailen, Uds. No baile, Ud. / No bailen, Uds.

•Leer: Lea, Ud. / Lean, Uds. No lea, Ud. / No lean, Uds.

SPELLING CHANGES

Verbs that end in: car will now end in que/n

as in “marcar” - No marque el libro. gar will now end in gue/n

as in “llegar” – No llegue tarde. zar will now end in ce/n

as in “cruzar” – No cruce la calle

DON’T FORGET THE GO VERBS

PRONOUN PLACEMENT

AFFIRMATIVE COMMANDS• Place pronouns AFTER the command

Estudiantes, entréguenmela. (la tarea)

NEGATIVE COMMANDS• Place pronoun BEFORE the command

Estudiantes, no me la entreguen ahora. (la tarea)
