• You form usted commands with the yo form of verbs.
• Drop the –o and add the following endings.
• You would use commands to sound assertive or force someone to do something.

*SPARKNOTES
• When using formal usted/ustedes commands:
• If the verbs end in –ar then it the end changes to –e or –en.
• If the verb ends –ir or –er then the verb changes to –a or –an.
• A lil’ something they don’t teach you in the book.
Irregular Ud./Uds. Commands
• For the irregular ud./uds. Commands there really aren’t any cool short cuts or anything to help you out.
• The only thing you can do is memorize them.

-Car, -Gar, and –Zar Verbs
• Verbs ending in –car, -gar, and –zar have a spelling change in the command form.
• -Car verbs end in –que or –quen, -Gar verbs end in –gue or –guen, and –Zar verbs end in –ce or –cen.

• In affirmative commands, you attach the object pronouns to the end of the verb.
• Give me the ball.
• Déme la pelota.
• Touch them.

• Also when using affirmative commands of two syllables or more, the stressed vowel carries an accent.
• Its almost always going to be the second to last stressed syllable in the verb.
Cook me some food.

Negative Commands
• These are a lot easier than affirmative.• When using the negative command, you
are telling someone not to do something.• Steps:• 1. Put “No” down first• 2. Then place the object directly after it• 3. Last you place the verb • 4. The rest of the sentence.

• Don’t touch me.
• No le salga.
• Don’t leave him.

Affirmative Tú Commands
• Affirmative command tú commands are the same as the usted/el/ella form of the verb in the present tense.

Cook the food and clean the house.

• You can also attach pronouns to affirmative commands.
• When you attach the pronouns to verbs with two or more syllables, add an Accent to show stress.
