Goal

I will explain the relationship that exists among mass, force and distance traveled.

Who is this?

Who many of you have ever tried to

skateboard? How is it that the skateboard can move?

Force

A force is a push, pull, or twist on an object which causes change.

There is a force that affects us every day, does anyone know what it is called?

Page 7: Force and Motion November 17 th. Goal I will explain the relationship that exists among mass, force and distance traveled.

Gravity

Gravity is a force that pulls objects towards each other. The larger the object, the greater the gravitational pull.

Balanced Force

A balanced force shows no change.

Unbalanced Force

Shows change

How would a force become unbalanced or show change?

Motion

Motion is the change in position of an object with respect to time. This just means that time passed while the object moved; this could be a very small amount of time, like a few seconds or a large amount of time, a few hours, days, etc.

What do you think causes the object to slow down and

eventually stop?

Friction

Friction is caused by two things moving against each other.

Experiment

We are going to be going outside and observing the playground

You will be looking for examples of unbalanced and balanced forces. You will also be looking for examples of potential and kinetic energy.

You will list these examples on your paper.

This is not play time. You are a scientist observing what is in front of you.
