EditorialDear Readers,

Ever since we (Bhatti Rajputs) gave up the weapons in the year 1294, we embraced "Vaishya Dharma" and became Baniya or Businessman. As wealth is created by the business, our successful members used their wealth for the society at large. This wealth include land, buildings and such other properties. When we look at this wealth, almost half of the land in Mumbai was owned by the Bhatias. This has happened after 1840. Similar are the stories at Jamnagar, Khambhaliya, Mandvi, Mundra, Jalgaon, Dharangaon, Vaijapur, South India and East Africa. Today, 3rd and 4th generation of those successful Business-minded Bhatias are either (1) managing the properties or (2) sold off the properties or (3) fighting out in court to protect the properties or (4) gave up the properties due to encroachment or failing to protect them.

The point worth thinking in today's time is - We gave up the arms, but why did we gave up the political power? If we wish to protect our assets, we can do it by having political power. Who has stopped us since 1947 to enter into politics and gain political power? Why we should not encourage our youth to take up IAS ? Several cases have been reported that property belonging to a Bhatia has been grabbed by the underworld. Bhattis were a formidable and fearful fighters. The spirit is still alive. Let the representatives of various Mahajans and Mitra Mandals take a lead and make a beginning. It is now or never.

Happy reading !

What readers say...

I wish to congratulate you on your great magazine. I have been an avid reader for a long time. I have just finished reading your September edition and thoroughly enjoyed your coverage on Celebration of Silver Jubilee of Dakshin Bharat Bhatia Mitra Mandal (DBBMM).

I am working as an Electronics Engineer in Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai for Large Area X-Ray Proportional Counter (LAXPC) Payload (Scientific Instrument) team for ASTROSAT Satellite, INDIA.

- Yash M. Ved, Mumbai

Very nice reading our 36th Newsletter. Dakshin Bharat Bhatia Mitra Mandal celebration details and all pics are nice and we feel as if we are attending the same.

The editorial about our Bhatia Trust and Building is thought provoking and needs urgent attention and corrective steps. I was faced with such situation when I went to Purchase Land for our factory. The seller was from Marwari Community and asked me my name. When I told him Ashok Bhatia, he was very pleased to hear and said O Bhatia, you are from a very good community. ONCE UPON TIME YOU WERE RULING MUMBAI BUT TODAY YOU ARE NOT. This has upset me and today's editorial also repeats the same thing. I urge GBF and all our community members to think on this matter and can decide some action Plan.

- Ashok R Bhatia, Dahisar.

Correction : The name of Bharat Natyam girl is “Dhwani Morparia” on the cover page of Sept. 2015 issue. The error is regretted.

Dr. Vinay Kumar Yadav has been teaching Hindi at Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College, Bengaluru, for 18 years now and is head of the Hindi department there. But he clearly remembers the one class he took that ignited the hearts and minds of the students who attended it.

“As a teacher, one sometimes gets a class that is very active and enthusiastic. Back in 2005-06, I got a 2nd pre-university class to teach. One lesson in that class had such a huge impact that it changed everyone’s thought process and had a ripple effect on the field of literature,” says Dr. Yadav.

Dr. Yadav, who loves the work of celebrated Hindi author Munshi Premchand, was teaching Lamhi – Munshi Premchand Ka Gaon (Lamhi, the village of Munshi Premchand). The lesson, which was about

Munshi Premchand’s Iconic Home Has Been Saved. Thanks to One Professor & His Students

Munshi Premchand’s home in Lamhi, a small village in Uttar Pradesh (UP), compared its significance to that of the residence of William Shakespeare in London.

“I was really touched by the comparison, especially since the author had written that Premchand’s house was in a bad condition. In contrast, Shakespeare’s house and heritage are very well preserved by the Britons,” says Dr. Yadav.

The students too were moved by Premchand’s story and suggested that something be done to preserve the home of this great writer.

Cochin International Airport Limited in Kochi, Kerala (India) has become the first airport in the world to be powered entirely by solar power. A 12 MW solar PV plant, spread over 50 acres, was inaugurated two days back near the airport 's cargo complex. The power plant took 6 months to complete and has come up at a cost of 620 million ($9.5 million).

Technically speaking, the airport is now grid neutral, as it will give back more than it consumes from the grid. The newly installed solar power plant can generate between 50,000 to 60,000 kWh per day.The airport has another 1 MW solar PV plant in addition to a smaller grid-connected 100 kW rooftop system, both of which were installed in 2013.The electricity generated from the system will be fed into the power grid and the airport will use equivalent power from the utility. The plant is expected to produce much more than what the airport would consume, and for this purpose a PPA has been signed with Kerala State Electricity Board to sell any surplus power. The 12 MW system was executed by Bosch's Energy and Building Solutions team in India. This is the largest project for the company to date.About a year back, the Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi took the solar plunge with a 2.14 MW plant.Incidentally, the combined capacity of solar installations at Cochin Airport (12+1.1 MW) is more than the solar PV system installed at the Indianapolis International Airport, which holds the record for world's largest solar plant at an airport. However, to be fair, Indianapolis has a single 12.5 MW ground-mounted system.According to the German company Enerparc, which had commissioned the Delhi system, the only special requirement for putting up a solar plant at an airport is the glare analysis for the solar panels. Solar glare is a concern among pilots, but technology advancements have led to a

substantive reduction in the reflective index of panels.Kolkata's Netaj i Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, which seems to be the next in line to install a MW-scale solar plant, is said to have sanctioned a 2 MW solar PV unit. Though, if the media reports are to be believed, the airport is eyeing a 15 MW ground-mounted solar power plant over 60 acres of land. The Airport Authority of India (AAI), which operates 125 airports across the country, including the Cochin and Kolkata airports, has decided to build solar power plants at about 30 of its airports.AAI has plans to install 50 MW capacity plants in the first phase (by 2016), which would be enhanced to 150 MW over a period of time. The plants would be established on surplus land available at these identified airports or on the large rooftops of the airport structures.A MoU was signed between AAI and Solar Energy Corporation Of India (SECI) for construction of these solar plants.India has 136 airports, some of which are spread over vast pieces of land. For example, the Hyderabad International Airport is spread over 5,400 acres, while the one at Chennai sits over 4,000 acres. Large-scale solar plants are possible on many of these. The one at Hyderabad, for instance, can house a 25 MW system.Source-http://cleantechnica.com/2015/08/21/1st-airport-world-

5. TRY AND U SHALL KNOWI am blind by birth. When I was 8 years old, I wanted to play baseball. I asked my father- "Dad, can I play baseball?" He said "You'll never know until you try." When I was a teenager, I asked him, - "Dad Can I become a surgeon?". He replied "Son, you'll never know until you try." Today I am a Surgeon, just because I tried!

6. GOODNESS & GRATITUDEToday, after a 72 hour shift at the fire station, a woman ran up to me at the grocery store and gave me a hug. When I tensed up, she realized I didn’t recognize her. 11. INNOCENCEToday, in the cutest voice, my 8-year-old daughter asked me to start recycling. I chuckled and asked, “Why?” She replied, “So you can help me save the planet.” I chuckled again and asked, “And why do you want to save the planet?” “Because that’s where I keep all my stuff,” she said.

12. JOYToday, when I witnessed a 27-year-old breast cancer patient laughing hysterically at her 2-year-old daughter’s antics, I suddenly realized that I need to stop complaining about my life and start celebrating it again.

13. KINDNESSToday, a boy in a wheelchair saw me desperately struggling on crutches with my broken leg and offered to carry my backpack and books for me. He helped me all the way across campus to my class and as he was leaving he said, “I hope you feel better soon.”.

14. SHARINGToday, I was traveling in Kenya and I met a refugee from Zimbabwe. He said he hadn’t eaten anything in over 3 days and looked extremely skinny and unhealthy. Then my friend offered him the rest of the sandwich he was eating. The first thing the man said was, “We can share it.”

Warren Buffet is considered among the top 5 richest men in the world. His fortune is estimated at around 50 billion dollars, 99% of which he intends to give to charity after his death. With such a record from a self made billionaire, who often gives advice to the top leaders of the world, it's well worth your time to read some of his advice.

On ReputationIt takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things differently.

On his most basic rulesRule No.1: Never lose money. Rule No.2: Never forget rule No.1. On sources of incomeNever count on a single income. Make investments to create additional sources of revenue. On spendingIf you buy things you don't need, you'll soon have to sell things you do need. On savingDon't save what you have left after spending, but spend what you have left after saving. On taking risksNever measure the depth of a river with both legs. On honestyHonesty is a very expensive thing, don't expect it from cheap people. On inheritanceA rich man must leave his children enough to do anything, but not enough to do nothing. On ideasYou do things when the opportunities come along. I've had periods in my life when I've had a bundle of ideas come along, and I've had long dry spells. If I get an idea next week, I'll do something. If not, I won't do a damn thing. On the trickle theoryThe rich are always going to say that, you know, just give us more money and we'll go out and spend more and then it will all trickle down to the rest of you. But that has not worked the last 10 years, and I hope the American public is catching on. On investing in the futureSomeone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago. On HabitsChains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.

When A Billionaire gives Financial Advice

On becoming richI always knew I was going to be rich. I don't think I ever doubted it for a minute. On learning from bettersIt's better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you'll drift in that direction. On price and valuePrice is what you pay. Value is what you get. On taxes for the richIf anything, taxes for the lower and middle class and maybe even the upper middle class should even probably be cut further. But I think that people at the high end - people myself - should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we've ever had it. On challengesI don't look to jump over 7-foot bars: I look around for 1-foot bars that I can step over. On being richOf the billionaires I have known, money just brings out the basic traits in them. If they were jerks before they had money, they are simply jerks with a billion dollars. On riskRisk comes from not knowing what you're doing. On wall streetWall Street is the only place that people ride to in a Rolls Royce to get advice from those who take the subway. On how he investsI never attempt to make money on the stock market. I buy on the assumption that they could close the market the next day and not reopen it for five years. On hindsightIn the business world, the rearview mirror is always clearer than the windshield. On ponzi schemesOnly when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked. On learning from historyIf past history was all there was to the game, the richest people would be librarians. On healing the economyEconomic medicine that was previously meted out by the cupful has recently been dispensed by the barrel. These once unthinkable dosages will almost certainly bring on unwelcome after-effects. Their precise nature is anyone's guess, though one ly consequence is an onslaught of inflation.

Andhra river interlinking: Farmers celebrate as Godavari water reaches Krishna delta region

Thousands of farmers offered prayers when water from the Godavari reached the Krishna delta region Wednesday as part of a plan to interlink the two rivers.

Since September 1, the state government has started releasing water from the Tatipudi Lift Irrigation Project in West Godavari district into a newly built canal of Polavaram project. The water is expected to eventually meet Krishna at Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada on September 15 after flowing for 174 km.

Andhra Pradesh Irr igation Minister Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao said: “It is a historic moment. Godavari and Krishna rivers are interlinked now.''“We started releasing water on September 1 as part of a trial run to see how the newly built canal works. About 450 to 500 cusec water was released intermittently as and when surplus water was available after meeting requirements of Tatipudi's ayacut. This water has today crossed into Krishna delta in Nuzvid of Krishna district after flowing for 124 km. By September 14 or 15, about 26,000 cusec water will flow into the Prakasam Barrage,” Srinivas Yadav, superintending engineer of the Indira Sagar Polavaram Project Right Main Canal, said. The river linking plan is also a trial run for the upcoming

Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project, which envisages linking Godavari with Krishna basin. Water from the Godavari will be used in Krishna delta, while water from Krishna basin will be diverted to the drought-prone Rayalaseema region through pipelines and canals.Parkala Prabhakar, Advisor to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, said: “Polavaram Dam, from where water can supplied to Krishna basin, will take another 4-5 years to be ready. Meanwhile, we are using the newly built canal to divert Godavari water from an existing dam into the Krishna basin. Every year, about 3,000 TMC of Godavari water flows away into Bay of Bengal, while there is hardly enough water in the Krishna. If we can harness even 200 to 300 TMC and divert it to Krishna basin. it can be pumped to Rayalaseema.

He added: “The interlinking through Pattiseema Project will help make the state drought-proof and we won't face water shortage even if rains are not good in a particular year.''

On September 15, CM Naidu will formally announce the interlinking of Godavari and Krishna after the Godavari reaches the Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada.

J&K: Army jawan lays down his life after killing 10 terrorists in 11 days

-Arun Sharma, The Indian Express

Creating a unique history of valour and dedication to duty, one of the Special Forces Commandos of the Indian Army, Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami, killed ten terrorists in a short span of 11 days before making supreme sacrifice in continued fight against terror in Kashmir Valley on Thursday. Lance Naik Goswami was killed at Hafruda forests in Kupwara district in fierce fire fight with terrorists, but not before the elimination of four of them. "A true soldier, he breathed his last in action,'' said a defence ministry spokesperson Colonel S D Goswami at the Northern Command headquarters in Udhampur. Hailing from Indira Nagar village in Haldwani tehsil of Nainital, he is survived by his wife and a seven-year-old daughter.

Part of numerous successful counter terrorist operations in the state, Lance Naik Goswami had been actively involved in three such operations in which ten terrorists were killed and one captured alive in the last 11 days.

Giving details, the spokesperson said that in the first operation, three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists hailing from Pakistan were killed in Khurmur, Handwara on August 23.

He again volunteered for a second back-to-back operation in which three more Lashkar terrorists were killed and another Sajjad Ahmad alias Abu Ubed Ullah captured alive during the two day-long fierce fire fight in Rafiabad after a fierce fire fight on August 26-27. The

apprehension of Sajjad Ahmad alias Abu Ubed Ullah, a resident of Muzzafargarh, proved to be a shot in the arm to establish Pakistan's complicity in abetting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, the defence ministry spokesperson said.

Lance Naik Goswami, once again, volunteered to be part of an ongoing operation launched in the dense Hafruda forest near Kupwara, Kashmir. This proved to be his last operation but not before elimination of four terrorists in a heavy gun battle, the spokesperson pointed out.

He had volunteers to join Indian Army's elite para commandos unit in 2002 and "went on to gain the reputation of being one of the toughest soldiers of his unit, no small feat in an outfit that boasts of being one among the best in the world'', the spokesperson said. His mortal remains were flown by an IAF aircraft to Bareilly, from where they will be taken by an Army helicopter to Pant Nagar and onward to his native place where he will be cremated with full military honours, he added.

ASTROSAT

ASTROSAT is the first dedicated Indian astronomy mission aimed at studying distant celestial objects. The mission is capable of performing observations in Ultraviolet (UV), optical, low and high energy X-ray wavebands at the same time. The satellite is planned to be launched on 28th September 2015 by PSLV C-30 to a 650 km near equatorial orbit around the Earth.

ASTROSAT carries four X-ray payloads (Scientific Instruments), one UV telescope and a charge particle monitor. Apart from ISRO, four other Indian institutions, viz., Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) and Raman Research Institute (RRI) are involved in payload development.

ASTROSAT will carry five astronomy payloads for simultaneous multi-band observations: 1. Twin 40-cm Ultraviolet Imaging Telescopes (UVIT) covering Far-UV to optical bands.

2. Three units of Large Area X-Ray Proportional Counters (LAXPC) covering medium energy X-rays from 3 to 80 keV with an effective area of 6000 sq.cm. at 10 keV.

3. A Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) with conical foil mirrors and X-ray CCD detector, covering the energy range 0.3-8 keV. The effective area will be about 120 sq.cm. at 1 keV.

4. A Cadmium-Zinc-Telluride coded-mask imager (CZTI), covering hard X-rays from 10 to 150 keV, with about 10 deg field of view and 500 sq.cm. effective area.

5. A Scanning Sky Monitor (SSM) consisting of three one-dimensional position-sensitive proportional counters with coded masks. The assembly will be placed on a rotating platform to scan the available sky once every six hours in order to locate transient X-ray sources.

ASTROSAT will be a proposal-driven general purpose observatory, with main scientific focus on: 1. Simultaneous multi-wavelength monitoring of intensity variations in a broad range of cosmic sources.2. Monitoring the X-ray sky for new transients.3. Sky surveys in the hard X-ray and UV bands.4. Broadband spectroscopic studies of X-ray binaries, AGN, SNRs, clusters of galaxies and stellar coronae.5. Studies of periodic and non-periodic variability of X-

ray sources.

Proposal-driven means anyone can submit their proposal for observation of any sources, QPO, transients, black hole, Clusters using any payload at any inclination in any orbit on any day. Depending on the excellence of the proposal it will be accepted or rejected by the approval committee.

Payloads (scientific Instruments mounted on satellite deck) needs to undergo several environmental qualification tests at various test facilities. The level of tests is pre-determined by QA officer after analysing payloads maximum operating range and environmental parameters of mission.

1. Vibration Test: Vibration tests are carried out to determine that designed system can withstand rigors of vibrations in its intended use environment. Tests carried out in Vibration Lab are of much higher level than the vibrations actually felt during the rocket launch. Vibration tests are carried out in three mechanical axes X-Axis , Y-Axis and Z-Axis . Payload is mounted on mechanical structure which is mounted on Vibration Table.

2. Thermovac Test: Thermovac test demonstrate performance and survival under temperature variations in vacuum condition, which exceed predicted flight temperature levels. Thermovac test is done immediately after vibration test.Payload needs to perform as per their design in span of short and long Hot and Cold cycles continuously in hard vacuum state. For e.g. If a payloads operating range in Space is from 10° to 30° the Thermovac test performed will have five short cycles of 2hrs each ranging from -5 ° to 40 ° and two long cycles of 24hrs soak at -5 ° and 40 ° temperature as per QA guidance.

3. EMI/EMC Test: EMI/EMC stands for Electromagnetic Interference and Electromagnetic conductance. The EMI/EMC test ensures that the total payload performs its intended functions when operating in the predicted electromagnetic environment. The test regime is composed of a variety of conducted and radiated emissions, as well as susceptibility tests with both being steady-state and transient in nature. EMI/EMC tests ensure that payloads are compatible with itself, electronic noise emissions, self-generated RF transmissions from antennas, and cross coupling of electrical currents.

4. Calibration: All the Payloads in the satellite are scientifically designed, so they need to be calibrated

with X-Ray Sources like Am241, Fe55, Cd109... etc available at ground in-order to set reference data set. After qualifying all the tests payloads undergo Baking and then they are cleared for mounting on satellite deck. Baking is done in Thermovac chamber at a fix temperature to minimise contamination and outgasing. Baking is a passive test and no tests are performed during baking.

Satellite Assembly: Satellite assembly is done in AIT (Assembly, Integration and Testing) Room. AIT is a big clean room where a low level of environmental pollutants such as dust, airborne microbes, aerosol particles, and chemical vapours are present.

Satellite Assembly Testing is carried in three phases in AIT room:Open End Testing: In this phase the initial harnessing (Wiring) is verified and it is assured that NO shorting exists between any two wires. Harnessing is done as per EID (Electrical Instrument Document) and commands are issued and their levels are measured on CRO.

Close End Testing: Once open end testing is found satisfactory harnesses are connected to their respective packages (as per their tagging) and close end testing of packages is performed to check for any variations in any electrical and science parameters.

After clearance from all Payloads and Packages (Packages are common electronics for all satellites like BMU, BDR, Antennas, Power subsystem...) full level satellite mounting is carried out. Satellite mounting is done panel by panel. Once all panels are mounted satellite is cleared for full level satellite assembly testing. Thermal blankets are mounted as per thermal requirement. Thermal Blanket provides package with desired thermal level for operation.

Full Satellite Assembly Testing: In this testing phase all payloads and packages are turned ON together as they are designed to perform in space and checks are done for any anomalies in commands issued, data reception, electrical and science parameters of Payloads and Packages.

Full level assembled satellite undergoes EMI-EMC test, Thermovac test, Vibration and Acoustic tests before shipment to Sriharikota.

Astrosat Satellite will be mounted on fourth stage PSLV rocket C-30. PSLV stands for The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. The satellite is planned to be launched on 28th

September 2015 by PSLV C-30 to a 650 km near equatorial orbit around the Earth. Rockets are named D in initial stages e.g. PSLV D1 where D stands for Development. Once their performance is satisfactory it is renamed as C indicating Commercial e.g. PSLV C-30.

On the PSLV first stage thrust is augmented by six strap-on solid boosters. Four boosters are ground-lit and the remaining two ignite 25 seconds after launch. In the standard PSLV, each booster carries nine tonnes of propellant and produces 510 kN thrust. The PSLV has four stages using solid and liquid propulsion systems alternately. Vikas engine is built by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It is used in the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) series of expendable launch vehicles for space launch use. The engine is used as the second stage of both the PSLV and the GSLV launch vehicles, with four strap-on boosters.

I conclude this article congratulating ISRO, Indian Scientists and Everyone who gave his valuable contribution to make this project a success.
