HCC Sisters, What a great summer I have had visiting friends and family. We had a wonderful Summer Social at Midway Barbeque in Katy. Sharon, as President Elect, you did an outstanding job on the Summer Social. Thanks for all of your hard work. It really paid off. The food was delicious, Bingo was exciting, “Yahoo”, and the crowd was upbeat with everyone having a great time. I also want to thank Alice, as Vice President in charge of membership, for her hard work sending out hundreds of invitations to many chapters and individuals who are not affiliated with any other Council. I know there were 4 chapters represented at the Summer Social without a Council. One chapter decided to rejoin HCC, YEA! I am so proud of both of you for your dedication to Beta Sigma Phi. You two really “Put Your Hearts into it”. Your HCC Board is getting ready for our Beginning Day Council Meeting on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 7:30 at the Forum. The Board meets on Thursday, August 18, 2016. Let me know if you have anything the Board needs to discuss. I hope you have had a relaxing and fun summer. We will hit the floor running this fall. See you at the Council Meeting. HUGS, Kathye

The Arc of Katy Summer Camp has held two successful sessions with one more to go. Campers have had fun as they have “Moved Through the Decades” with fun 20’s and 50’s activities and have enjoyed the 60’s and 70’s, making pet rocks, tie dying shirts and even cooking their own TV dinners. A highlight in July was the campers being selected on Facebook as the “Largest Herd of Cows” to visit a local Chick-fil-A on “Cow Appreciation Day.” They decorated cow masks and had black spots all other their shirts when they visited the Chick-fil-A. They are all looking forward to their big prize – a visit by the Chick-Fil-A Cow delivering them all lunch. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner (lunch)!

HCC SUMMER SOCIAL – A HUGE SUCCESS!!!
“We put our hearts into it”
July 16, 2016 – Midway BBQ Restaurant, Katy, TX
There were 119 cowgirls and cowboys this year at our “BBQ and Bingo” Summer Social “Deep in the Heart of Katy.” Best of all was being able to visit with Beta Sigma Phi sisters and their guests. How honored we were to have sisters not only
from 12 of our 14 chapters, but we also got to visit with old friends and meet new ones from The Arc of Katy, Laureate Iota Tau (SW Houston City Council), Preceptor Iota Iota, Preceptor Mu Iota, and Xi Mu Eta! An extra treat was having 2 of our 90-year-old mothers with us as well (Kathy O’Brien’s mom and Honorary Member of Epsilon Tau Master, Lillian Robinson) and (Alice White’s mom, Dorothy Morgan).
Greeting everyone as they arrived with their beautiful smiles were Epsilon Chi Master sisters, Susan Soderquist and Betty Coody (Reservations Chair).

Photographer), and Sharon Johnson Munn (President-Elect and Event Chair) in front

Table Centerpieces
We enjoyed Midway’s Award Winning homemade BBQ Brisket, BBQ Beans, Potato Salad and all the trimmings with free drink refills and HEB’s moist, yummy, and cute Sunflower cupcakes with mini Oreos in the middle of the flower.
Shortly after lunch, our “Bingo Cowgirl” Patti Woods began calling Bingo and kept us all chuckling with her sparkling personality. All around the Midway corral you could hear laughter and a multitude of “Yee Haws” by winners. Over 60 Bingo and Door Prizes worth a total of 700 were won during the event. Brooke Sterling, Sigma, was the first Bingo winner!

My thanks to each of you who attended and celebrated summer together. I am “much obliged” to my chapter sisters in Epsilon Chi Master and my sisters on the HCC Executive Board for their support and help. This event was so much fun to plan, and I hope ya’ll had a great time!
Beta Smiles, Sharon Johnson Munn, President-Elect
WOW, what a fantastic Silent Auction Carolyn Kares, Service Chair, put together. One item, a beautiful yellow rose painting, was painted and donated by our very own Nancy Sieh (Epsilon Phi Master). We raised over $1,000 for The Arc of Katy – “Yee Haw”

Summertime in Houston - Hot and Humid, but that didn't keep Delta Master sisters away.
Our Scott, Mary Gould, and our Brit, Terri McGee, prepared typical English/Scott brunch for our July meeting. Scottish Eggs, FRENCH croissants and the BEST conversations were the highlights of our day.
Our President, Evalynn, who is our resident Martha Stewart, lamented on the fact that when she replaced all of her kitchen appliances, she would unable to replace her double oven as they are no longer manufactured. Oh goodness, we'll have to endure the black oven which DOES not match her other appliances. We are aghast!
Meanwhile, Jackie Potosky is just happy. And, we are happy for Jackie as she is recovering from her devastating West Nile Virus.
JoAnn McClain lost her car TWICE to the spring floods. The insurance company would not approve a new replacement, but JoAnn has her car back and it is working great. She thoroughly enjoyed her sojourn to Cancun for a two week R&R. Swimming, Sunning, Sleeping and Eating for two weeks was just what the doctor ordered. The sun tan looks great too.

And our other Jackie, (Ferrara, that is) presented Evalynn with her scrapbook for last year and it is so really enjoyable. THANK you Jackie. It is a labor of Love that we all appreciate.
Talk about going North, Carolyn and Barney are headed to the YUKON in Barney's R/V and will be gone FIVE WEEKS. Hmmm, guess she will miss beginning day cause she and Joann have already finished the yearbooks and Joann will have to pass them out as Carolyn will be close to the ARCTIC CIRCLE, freezing her . . . . . ahhhh yep, her nose off!
Mary Gould's daughter, Mary Jo, was our special guest today and it was such a pleasure meeting her and hearing her stories about being a part of the SOUTH SIDE ROLLER DERBY. She and her team travel the US skating with other chapters around the country. Mary Gould, meanwhile, watches it on her I-Pad as the game is streamed. I think we've heard Mary hollering and screaming during the race . . not sure, but we think so!
Guess what, Terri McGee is NOT on the seven seas, at least not yet. October she and Werner will be taking a fall foliage cruise up the East Coast. She is happy, however, that her favorite (and only) son did not get laid off at FMC. He was the only guy standing in his department! She does worry about him as he is traveling all over the world. WHAT Terri? LOOK whose talking!

Claire Wind, Malisa Jans and Pat Thompson were not at the meeting. Claire is taking care of Harold; Malisa was down with a bug and Pat was visiting children in points North!
Virginia, on the other hand, is fighting an attack of the chiggers. Little did she know when she rattled her Italian Cypress trees to help enforce the pole that was tied to the tree that she upset a boatload of chiggers who quickly found her skin as dessert! For the last couple of days bleach, hot water baths, scrubs and anything else she could think of has done little to asuage the itchiness. Well, for certain, this gal ain't gonna go out to those bushes again!
After the luncheon we all sat around and cut out pumpkin patterns for the ARC of Katy and the conversations were never dull. Technology expert, Virginia Lee, tried to set Mary's speakers on her beautiful new TV to have more bass. Well, she lost the picture, lost the sound and it took fifteen minutes before the picture was discovered once again. The speakers were never adjusted! Mary was quite grateful to Virginia, for at least getting her picture back!
Excitement is in the air as Virginia, Carolyn and Evalynn are planning an Alpha Eta Rho, Delta Master Reunion. Sally Braddy, Bernice Vann, Betty Vernon, Willa Lockhart, Wanda Pace along with our 'Cross town rivals and forever friends, Shirl Gallagher, Charlene Sawyer, Sally Vrba and Carolyn Kares will be on the invite list too. We're thinking Junior League! BUT everybody's got to be back in town first! Oh me, life at our age is soooooo much fun. No more work and all play!
And, that's the way it was for Delta Master in July, 2016!

The chapter met at Texas Land and Cattle Restaurant for their monthly lunch/meeting on July 11. It is always a great meal there. Sharon Munn shared her “Beta Sigma Phi Journey” with all members present. Next month for Beginning Day, members will travel to Pam Marshall’s home in Leander.
Betty and Wes Coody took a road trip to Big Bend, stayed at the Chisos Mountain Lodge and had a great time. Enjoyed the sunset behind the Lodge. Checked out the Gorilla Mountain. Went to Santa Elena Canyon Trail to the river below. Can you find Wes’s initials on the mountain? We didn’t do it!!!

Maggie and Ray Hildebrand drove in from San Antonio for Maggie’s eye surgery. Surgery went well. They stayed with Betty and Wes Coody for follow up doctor visit. She is sporting her revised glasses, one lens out. Also going to a Surprise Birthday party. Can’t wait!!! Pete and Sharon Munn flew to Charlotte, North Carolina to spend the July 4th week with his sister, Shirley and her hubby Keith at their summer home in the gated Jefferson Landing Country Club Resort community (in NW NC). They both fell in love with the area's beauty (ponds, rivers, forests, Blue Ridge Mountains) and purchased a lot (next door to Shirley) to build a summer retirement home facing Mount Jefferson and backing to the Meadowbrook Pond.

Here’s that surprise party! Margie and Stan Adamson were surprised at their home by family and friends on Saturday, July 30, to celebrate their 70th birthdays (Stan is older). Daughters Stacy and Sheri planned the whole event with the help of friends of Margie and Stan’s. The whole party was a lot of fun!!!! Epsilon Chi Master presented each with 70 scratch-off lottery tickets. Hopefully they were all big winners.

Socials: The Summer Social at Midway BBQ in Katy was attended by our HCC President, Kathye Allen, her sister Sherrye Hubbs. from Greenville, Texas and Twyla Woody, Anita Emmons, and Sylvia Quillen. Sherrye was one of the lucky raffle item winners. Thanks for organizing a great event, Sharon. We had a great time. Lots of delicious food, barbecue was tasty, cupcakes were yummy, and Bingo games were super. Sherrye also won a door prize. Our table was disappointed not to have had one Bingo winner.

Children, Grandkids & Legacies: Bernie & Ralph’s son Brian and his family were in Houston for a visit the second week of July. Brian attended his 30th high school reunion at MacArthur which was also attended by his kindergarten teacher, Ms. Wood. Brian’s class was her first teaching assignment and she attends everything relating to Brian’s class. Travel: Suzanne & Jim Kelly had a wonderful trip to San Francisco where one of Suzanne's brothers lives. We toured Hearst Castle in San Simeon, the central wine region wineries, and had lunch at Big Sur. We also went to a long running play called Beach Blanket Babylon in San Francisco. Get well quick: Pat Allen had total knee replacement surgery recently. Keep Pat in your prayers. Judene Juch had a Facet Rhizotomy performed on her back, and hoping for great success in reducing her pain. A Facet Rrhizotomy is a procedure that inserts an electrothermal needle into the facet joint and heats up the nerves to destroy them.

Epsilon Phi Master has had a very unnews worthy month. We don't meet during the summer, so everyone is enjoying their families and doing fun things and taking a break! We have lots of birthdays in the month of July so we have been partying at the Sieh household! We are just grateful that all three of our kids live close enough that we can all get together once in a while, it's so much fun when they're all here with their families! We are also grateful that our son, Billy, and his family have made two successful mission trips this summer, one to Iraq and one to the Dominion Republic. They are all home safe and sound, thank God. Martha Baxter wanted to report that she is doing some better but has a pinched nerve that is causing her leg pain. She also wanted to warn everyone that they have killed two large Copperheads near their house in Katy! She said the weather man said they are searching for the Cicados eggs under the oak trees. She would like to urge everyone to be sure and wear shoes outside and make sure you have a flashlight at night. Well, Dot Hooper, Alice White, and Devon Brown are about to leave for International Convention we hope they and everyone attending have a fun, safe trip and bring back lots of great pictures!! Well not much has happened at the White House lately. Alice and Reg did see opening night of Hillary's America and so worth all to see. Enjoyed the Kids and grandkids from Dallas here over the 4th and enjoyed our annual homemade ice cream. Enjoyed Summer Social and all in attendance and thank you Sharon for a very fun event. Alice is ready for fun at the International Convention and those that are going got button pins to trade with others who have pins. Alice’s are Texas State that says Texas, Don't Mess with Texas and has Katy Tx on it.

Congrats to Sharon Johnson Munn and her committee for a fun Summer Social. The BBQ was delicious and the Bingo fun. Patricia Woods’ Bingo calling kept everyone at our table pretty busy. No Bingo winners, but there were happy smiles from the door prize winners. Carolyn Kares had her nephew, Brandon Sepeda, as her guest for the day and he really enjoyed himself. It was a great day -Bingo is one of his favorite games, he loves to eat and he was pretty happy when it was announced that his bid won the Ice Cream auction item. Brandon attends the Arc Summer and Day Camps and he was glad to see some familiar faces from the Arc at the social. Arc Board Secretary, Donna Bode and her husband, Bob attended as did Brandon’s friend from Camp, Darryl Ford and his sister Cynthia. Also attending from Summer Camp was Morgan Fleckenstine with her grandmother, sorority member Janice Fleckenstine of Xi Mu Eta.

PLZ started July with our meeting at the home of Karen Luyties. We had a quick dinner and meeting and then started to cut out the Easter egg cut outs for the Arc of Katy. Karen outlined the eggs and the rest of us cut. It gave us all time to catch up and laugh together. What a great way to spend an evening!

In the middle of the month we enjoyed a wonderful HCC Summer Social. Our members and guest, Mary Herndon, enjoyed a wonderful time, even though we were one of the last 3 tables to have our name drawn to eat. Well, to make up for out bad luck on the eating draw, our group went on to have 2 of us win a bingo and then everyone win a door prize. What a change in luck. We want to thank Sharon Johnson-Munn and her committee for providing a very enjoyable afternoon.
Our month ended with a social to celebrate our 2016 Woman of the Year, Karen Luyties. PLZ wants to thank Karen for all her hard work this past year. We couldn’t have done it without you. As the saying goes, Karen YOU ROCK! Members and their husbands, significant others or family members enjoyed dinner at Fratellini’s Ristorante Italiano. Our waiter was so entertaining and the choice of dishes was really long and each sounded soooo good. Everyone felt their dinners were as good or actually better then they sounded. It was so great to have everyone there.

Karen Luyties and family are off to their family vacation home in New Mexico for a last family vacation before Karen and Bill’s son, Bobby Luyties, is deployed to Afghanistan. Hopefully we will see some pictures when they return. Jamie and Jerry Novosad sold their second home up on Lake Conroe. Now comes the fun part of having to figure out what you want to keep and pack up the rest. They have to have it all done before the end of August, when they leave for vacation. Theresa Schambach is doing well after her hip replacement surgery. She was able to attend the chapter social and looked great and walking with a lot less pain in both the hip and knee. We are so happy for her. Sara Gosney’s father is having some health issues. Keep them in your prayers as they go through this difficult time. Happy Special Day to Toni Henderson – July 12th

Sigma Chapter met at Robin Thompson's home on July 18th for our monthly meeting. Secret sister gifts were exchanged, as well as door prizes were opened that were won at the HCC's Summer Social. Our door prize winners were Robbie Green (Jessica Green's husband), Kevin Thompson (Robin Thompson's husband) and Pam Parker.
As we conducted our meeting, we cut out hearts for the Arc of Katy (Service program) for their upcoming project at HCC 2016 Fashion Show this year. YAAAYYY!! We manage to get all the hearts traced and cut in one sitting. Also, several member brought donation items needed for the Arc of Katy; in which Marcia will bring to the next HCC meeting.

Lots of activities like horse shoes, game room, volley ball, bike parade, painting ceramics, designing tshirts, water balloon fights and more, especially the riding in the Lazy River, water pad, water slides and more. We try to go here three times a year and only 45 minutes from our trailer storage. Enjoy the fun pictures!

Our July social was Torchbearer Iota’s annual day at the beach with Emily Kelton and husband Bruce at their beach house in Bolivar. We had hamburger and hot dogs with all the trimming, including watermelon. We were able to stay outside as there was a nice breeze. Always a fun time. We played several games but nothing but nothing using too much energy since it was pretty hot even though we had a breeze. Emily Kelton and her husband Bruce spent the 4th of July week at their beach house in Bolivar. There were a total of 15 people and we had some of the most perfect weather for the 4th. It was extremely hot but the weather was beautiful and it never rained on our parade. Wonderful time. Emily Kelton is getting excited. After 5 months of dental work, she only has one more major fix. She is so thankful it is almost finished. Bette Fritz had an OOOPPPS on her way to her car to meet sorority sister, Linda Sandoz, for the trip to Bolivar. She was pushing her cart with all of her goodies to her car when the cart broke and pulled her down onto the walk just a few steps from her apartment. She had a bloody knee and bad scrape and she also hit her head but thank goodness nothing but a small scrape there. Because she was holding on to the cart, her right arm was extended and caused her arm and hand to hurt. Bette had to holler for help because she was unable to get up off the ground by herself. Two ladies fortunately came by and pulled her up and she was able to get back into the apartment and clean her wounds. Linda came and picked Bette up and off to Bolivar they went. By the time Bette got home Saturday night it even hurt to brush her teeth with her right hand. Bette went to Church on Sunday and luckily she sits up against the wall in the choir loft and was able to use it and the chair next to her to get up and down when singing. By Tuesday, the body was starting to soften up and did not hurt so much.

July is always so busy for everyone we combine our social and meeting night at a restaurant. This month, we met at this new restaurant in the Heights called “Ritual”. Perfect name for a BSP meeting place, right? It was fun and the food was great. This gave us a chance to catch up on trips we’ve either taken this month or are getting ready to take. Plus we made our Beginning Day Plans. Most importantly, In August we will be welcoming back our sister, Robyn Skubal, who has been on Leave of Absence for the past year. The girls that made it to the HCC Summer Social Bingo Party said it was great fun. Well done Sharon!
