  • The « Moon-stars » Tibetan mala gets its name fromthe round eye (which represents the moon) and themultiple small eyes (which represent the stars) whichadorn its beads. It has the peculiarity that its colourchanges when it touches the skin and if it is polishedregularly its initial colour turns intense brown overtime.The « Moon-stars » Tibetan mala beads come froma kind of rattan which is found in the tropical forestsof the island of Hainan. The beads strung to the malaare made of turquoise. This stone has been chosenfor its beauty but also for its symbolic power and theproperties which are attributed to it against negativeenergies. Along with coral and amber, turquoise isone of the three stones that the Tibetans prefer andwear more often. Turquoise symbolises vital impulsefor them.

  • Huanghuali is a precious wood from the island ofHainan and has a long reputation in China for havingbeen used during the Ming and the Qing dynastiesfor quality furniture manufacturing. Its scientific nameis Dalbergia odorifera but it is also known as fragrantrosewood.This Huanghuali mala is strung with yellow beadsmade of céromel, a stone which belongs to thefamily of amber. It is particularly appreciated for itscolour and its brightness as well as its semitransparentqualities.Céromel is part of the seven treasures of Buddhismand it is one of the most appreciated traditionalTibetan jewels as far as spirituality is concerned (itcan soothe the soul) but it has also healing properties(it can cure skin conditions and it contributes toaccelerate wound healing).

  • Coconut shell is well-known for its cosmetic andnutritional virtues, but the wood of the coconut shellis no so well known. It gives the beads of this malaa black and shiny colour.This wood comes from the island of Hainan and hasthe particularity that it darkens and becomes shinierover time.The blue stones are lapis lazuli renowned for theirtherapeutic, purifying and soothing properties.

  • The wood of Thuya Sutchuenensis is very scarce andparticularly fragrant and can be found in Kandze, aTibetan region in the province of Sichuan. It is wildlyused for incense production.The beads are made of red onyx which can only befound in China. The onyx is believed to bring balanceand harmony to the person who wears it and toprotect from negative energies.
