Follow our social media feed at www.co.hidalgo.tx.us/followus NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tuesday, June 30, 2020 COVID-19 claims the lives of 11 Hidalgo County residents; 440 people test positive for the virus EDINBURG – In the largest single day increase since the pandemic started, 11 people have died due to complications related to COVID-19, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said Tuesday. This comes as 440 people learned they tested positive for the virus bringing the total number of positive cases to 3,982. "My heart is extremely heavy tonight as we mourn the loss of 11 of our residents,” said Judge Cortez. “They were someone’s child, someone’s parents and someone’s grandparents. Eleven families will never be the same again because of this deadly disease. I send my deepest condolences to each and every one of them.” The deaths involved the following 11 people who all had underlying medical conditions: Age range Gender City Age Range Gender City 20s Male Edinburg 60s Male Alamo 40s Male Donna 70+ Male Mission 40s Male San Juan 70+ Female San Juan 60s Female McAllen 70+ Male Edinburg 60s Female San Juan 70+ Female Weslaco 60s Male Hidalgo There are currently 2,786 net active cases and 3,577 test results are pending. There are 274 people hospitalized with complications from the virus; 19 of those cases are being treated in intensive care units. Fifty-five people were released from isolation on Tuesday meaning that they have been symptom-free for 10 days, including three days without a fever.
