“Through Tragedy, Challenge, Perseverance, and Triumph: A Quilter is Born.” A native of East Tennessee, in the early 1980’s Elizabeth Burns moved from Miami, Florida to southern Indiana where she began working as a dispatcher for the Indiana State Police. Following years of dispatching help to others, Burns found herself on the receiving end of dispatch help when she was involved in a near fatal accident. Burns faced years of reconstructive surgeries, while at the same time she had to accept the total loss of her sight.
She married her husband, Ronnie in 1998, and lived in Salem, Indiana until 2015. She currently resides in Mount Carmel, Tennessee. Burns loves the outdoors, and can often be found puttering in her flowers or garden. Burns is a homemaker who loves to sew, a talent that is evidenced by the many handmade quilts, placemats, table runners, and other hand crafted items that decorate their home. Burns began piecing quilts in the year 2000, twelve years after she became totally blind. She is an avid quilt maker who has won many Best of Show ribbons for her work. She is a member of the Highland Homemakers in Washington County, Indiana and a member of several quilt guilds.
