Slide adapted from Millard K., Woolf A. & Tandy J. AGI Marine and Coastal SIG 22nd March 2006 .

But why do we need Marine data?

these groups need information about the activities of the others and standard base data.

But why do we need marine data…

Now, for the first time, key marine base mapping and thematic data will be available direct to users within Higher and Further Education….

Via institutional subscription and user registration to Marine Digimap…

Due to a licence agreed between JISC Collections and SeaZone Solutions Ltd.

Hydrospatial – “Marine Mastermap”

• Value added marine GI, derived from electronic navigation charts (S57) and other sources (SNH, EH, BGS etc)

• Cookie cut to 2 degree tiles, so no overlaps

• Mapinfo TAB and ESRI Shapefile format

• Also gridded bathymetry in ASCII Grid and ArcInfo Grid formats

• 7 “topic” layers, each containing several “theme” layers

• Not all 2 degree tiles contain all “theme” layers
