For Friends and Customers of Regency Insurance Agency, Inc. February 2017
2017 is off to a running start — It’s already February! ...and February brings Valentine’s Day...a perfect time to talk about insurance!...I’m serious. I want to share a little information with you about protecting those Valentine’s Day gifts you may be purchasing for that special someone in your life (although keep this in mind for birthdays and other holidays as well). Homeowners and renters insurance policies include coverage for personal items such as jewelry. However, policies do limit the dollar amount for theft of valuable personal possessions such as jewelry. These policies may not always cover “Mysterious Disappearance” (a fancy way of saying “I lost it”). To be fully informed about the specific coverage of your policy, contact us any time. Here are some things you need to know when making a big holiday purchase, such as expensive electronics, jewelry, and more:
Contact us immediately - Let our office know as soon as you invest in your expensive gift. (To properly insure gifts, consider purchasing additional coverage.)
Keep a copy of the store receipt - You will need to forward a copy of the receipt to us so that we know the current retail value of the item. (Keep a copy for yourself and include it in your home inventory.)
And if you haven’t already, Add the item to your home inventory - Everyone should have an up-to-date inventory of their personal possessions. (Be sure you are updating your home inventory as you make big purchases so that you are fully protected.)
The Beatles made their first American television appearance –LIVE– on the Ed Sullivan Show. (Check out this month’s Word Search).
February’s birthstone is the amethyst. It symbol-izes piety, humility, spir-itual wisdom, and sinceri-ty.
Popular holidays in Feb-
ruary include Valentine’s Day and President’s Day.
The Supreme Court of the
United States met for the first time on Febru-ary 1, 1790.
February is Black History Month. In observance:
“The life of a nation is se-
cure only while the nation is honest, truthful, and virtuous.” - Frederick Douglass
“People might not get all
they work for in this world, but they must cer-tainly work for all they get.” - Frederick Douglass
“Most people search high
and wide for the key to success. If they only knew, the key to their dreams lies within.” - George Washington Carver
WORD SEARCH! How Many Beatles Songs Can You Find Below?
Do you use your turn signal? Have you noticed less and less drivers taking the time to let others know which way they’re going? According to a study by The Society of Automotive Engineers, drivers fail to use their turn signals (or turn them off) when changing lanes - 48% of the time. According to the same study, only 1 in 4 of us use them when mak-ing a turn. According to Response Insurance, 42% of drivers surveyed claim they just don’t have enough time. Another 23% admit they’re just lazy….Ouch! The lack of turn signal usage results in about 2 million roadway collisions per year. It seems like more and more drivers are distracted. Smart phones, texting, and lattes are causing many to forgo the inconvenience of warning others of their intentions. What does this mean to you? We have to be more alert than ever when driv-ing: Keep a safe distance from the driver in front of you. Be aware of cars driving in the lane next to you. Watch for cars making erratic lane changes. Remind the young driver in your household about the need for turn signals.
With a little vigilance, you can avoid being a statistic.
