The man who answered explained that they had started a mission, and after a time started selling chicken dinners after Sunday worship to raise funds. People liked the chicken, and they did such a good business that eventually they cut back on the church activities and services to focus more on the dinners. Finally, they just closed the church altogether and kept serving chicken. They did keep the original name, though, hence, “The Church of God Grill.” Now there was a group who lost sight of their primary purpose and became devoted to lesser things. It’s easy to get distracted and drawn away so that we live majoring on the minors, and minoring on the majors. I Peter 4: 1-2 says that “since Christ suffered for us, we should spend the rest of our time in the flesh not for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.” Keep the main thing, the main thing: be sure you’re living for what will matter when you stand before God. People may like your chicken, but don’t miss or scale back your walk with God to serve it. This coming Sunday morning, in Luke 22: 39 – 53 we’ll look at “The Man Who Prayed and the Men Who Slept,” and see what a difference it makes in us and around us, when we pray rather than sleep. When we come to those forks in the road, when we have to choose which path to take, how do we know the right one? On Sunday night, we’ll continue our new study of Psalm 119 with verses 9 – 16, “The Right Path.” This weekend, do something you’ll be grateful for across eternity to come: seek the Lord. Bro. CHURCH LIBRARY RESOURCE OF THE WEEK
John Bunyan was an uneducated, profane metal worker who was gloriously saved
and called to preach. Ultimately he spent 13 years of his life in prison because he
refused to compromise his faith or deny his call to preach the Gospel. While in prison
he wrote books that have inspired countless millions and changed lives across the
centuries ever since. This volume, from the Legacy of Faith Library set, includes
Bunyan’s autobiography, Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners, his classic
Pilgrim’s Progress, and recollections of his call to ministry and his imprisonment.
Classic works by Charles Spurgeon, John Wesley, and others are available as well.
Find them at 200 Bun in your Church Library! __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
