The programs consist of 6 master's and doctoral programs (Oral-Dental Biology, Clinical Dentistry, Stomatopathology, Dental Materials, Dentistry and Dental Radiology) and a professional master's degree in Public Health. The reputation of these programs attracts foreign students, especially from African, Central American and South American countries. The skills of FOP faculty members contribute to the excellence of the graduate programs. Approximately 40% of the School’s professors completed post-doctoral fellowships abroad, and their high degree of specialization is directly reflected in the quality of the education and research activities they perform. Published in renowned international journals, studies produced by FOP faculty are referenced in the most diverse dentistry fields. The connections that faculty members have with foreign institutions provide graduate students with the opportunity to complete the experimental part of specialization abroad, enriching the production of FOP through a healthy exchange of experiences with foreign countries. The undergraduate program in Dentistry was created in 1957 and is administered by the former School of Pharmacy and Dentistry of Piracicaba (incorporated by Unicamp in 1967). It is characterized by an important practical aspect: starting in their second year and supervised by faculty members, students begin seeing patients in the School’s clinics. The FOP campus occupies an area of 85,000 m 2 , of which a total of 19,000 m 2 is built. In addition to administrative offices and classrooms, the buildings house 7 departments and 35 laboratories. The School also manages a Prosthetic Technician School. In parallel to its academic activities, FOP offers free treatment to the population of Piracicaba and to patients from other regions of Brazil who seek its services in all dentistry specialties, including the dental care of adults, children, pregnant women and patients with special needs and infectious diseases. FOP sees approximately 3,500 patients per month, and approximately 200,000 procedures are performed on the School’s premises per year, including surgeries, radiological services, restorations and periodontal and prosthetic treatment, among others. The institution also develops external internships, particularly programs that provide preventive and curative care to children in public schools and to the low-income population of the municipality. Specialization and refresher courses are also included among FOP’s extension programs, and together with the undergraduate and graduate programs, FOP extension activities collaborate to set standards of excellence for the teaching of Dentistry in Brazil.
