In 2017, our Customer Experience and Analytics Centre and Omni-Channel Retail Centre, worked on industry- commissioned projects focusing on digitalisation for SMEs like Sim Soon Heng, Thye Shan Medical Hall, and myCK. myCK also engaged our Mediahub to work on a digital media campaign, which was featured in the news. The videos produced by our students on myCK’s page have since garnered 17,000 views. NYP-bioMerieux Food Microbiology Rapid Testing Centre
The NYP-bioMérieux Food Microbiology Rapid Testing Centre was officially opened in June 2017. The partnership offers joint workshops for industry and students in research and development work. The Centre will focus on rapid food testing and validation. Companies can send their food samples for testing and receive results in half the time. This benefits food manufacturers as they can push their products into the market, and clear the import-export inspection quicker.
NYP-Pall Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Biologics Manufacturing Technologies
The new centre in Biologics Manufacturing Technologies was officially opened in SCL in January 2018. It is a collaboration with Pall Life Sciences to offer the first one-stop integrated training centre for the industry. The centre showcases single-use technologies including chromatography column packing and filter integrity testing apparatus. More than 300 SCL students will be introduced to the latest technologies available.
SUSTAINABLE AQUACULTURE - A SINGAPORE PERSPECTIVE
The conference was a platform for industry, academia and regulators to network and share the latest R&D findings related to aquaculture vaccines, diagnostics, and sustainable aquaculture practices in Singapore. Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of National Development, Dr Koh Poh Koon, was the Guest-of-Honour for this conference. Over 70 industry guests participated in this event.
BETTER INNOVATION IN SUGAR REDUCTION SEMINAR
Committed to supporting the national fight against diabetes, SCL staff presented on the topic of sugar-reduction trends at this seminar attended by food industry professionals, academics and public servants. There were also workshops conducted by Tate & Lyle experts on the various applications of sugar alternatives.

LAUNCH OF SKILLSFUTURE EARN & LEARN PROGRAMME – SPECIALIST DIPLOMA IN DESIGN & MAKE
In June 2017, SDN and SFIC Institute – the training arm of the Singapore Furniture Industries Council – jointly launched the Specialist Diploma in Design & Make under the SkillsFuture Earn & Learn Programme (ELP). The course was customised to meet the needs of, and groom talent for the furniture and furnishings industry here. It complements existing training in industrial product, interior and experience design, and prepares the trainees to provide better value to their employers. The programme was officially launched by Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Education and Ministry of Trade & Industry.
MOU WITH SAKAE HOLDINGS
In February 2018, SDN signed an MOU with Sakae Holdings for three years. This marked a collaboration between the two organisations to work on service experience design, innovation projects and attachment programmes. The first project involving 25 students from the Diploma in Industrial Design started in April 2018.

SDN signed an MOU with the newly-opened Novotel Hotel in October 2017. This three-year partnership will see SDN students work on journey mapping and design unique service experiences for customers.

To enhance productivity and improve work processes for Sanwa-Intec (Asia) Pte Ltd, SEG developed a robotic handling system to produce pre-mould pins for the company. This digitalisation project enables the company to embrace Industry 4.0 – the new trend of automation and data exchange.
FIRST HUAWEI ICT ACADEMY IN SINGAPORE
SEG signed an MOU with Huawei International Pte Ltd to set up the first Huawei ICT Academy in Singapore. SEG and SIT students will be the first in Singapore to benefit from Huawei’s expertise in networking technologies, cybersecurity, cloud computing technologies, IT storage systems and big data.

VISION-BASED SYSTEM ON AIRPORT TROLLEY
SEG, together with Cyclect Electrical Engineering Pte Ltd, innovated a next generation baggage handling system for the airport. The system sought to overcome manpower constraints and raise workflow productivity. Key innovations included automated measuring of baggage size using 3D imaging, and intelligent spatial allocation in the smart trolley for baggage reconciliation and retrieval.

SHS CONDUCTS PROGRAMMES FOR HEALTH AMBASSADORS
The Health Promotion Board (HPB) and SHS signed a service agreement to develop and run Certification Programs in Health Promotion for its health ambassadors – who are volunteers working with HPB to meet the health needs of the community. Participants rated the programme favourably: They found the small-group interactive exercises, sharing of case studies, and the blended and experiential learning strategies engaging and interesting.
RAISING AWARENESS FOR MENTAL HEALTH IN SINGAPORE
More than 30 students from the Diploma in Social Sciences (Social Work) collaborated with Clarity Singapore to create a mental health awareness programme that targeted youth in tertiary institutions. They came up with ‘UNSPOKEN, The Voice Within’, a three-part community engagement project conducted via experiential booths, psycho-educational exhibitions, and an interactive drama about depression. The students closed the event with an original song to encourage those struggling with mental health.
TWO CET DIPLOMAS CONCLUDED
The Specialist Diploma in Clinical Education: Post-Diploma Certificate in Assessment of Learning in Advanced Nursing concluded in September 2017. Registered nurses learned more about providing effective clinical supervision to nursing students. The inaugural run of the Specialist Diploma in Nursing (Gerontology) recently ended in February 2018. Participants deepened their knowledge and skills to meet the healthcare needs of older adults with complex health problems in a variety of settings.

SIT has completed several industry projects in the areas of Mixed Reality, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality. Among the collaborations is the Holo Maintenance project for Anacle Systems – using Microsoft HoloLens to simplify shipping engineers’ maintenance tasks. The Republic of Singapore Air Force also collaborated with NYP to develop a VR application to simulate their Ground-Based Air Defence system.
STRENGTHENING SINGAPORE’S CYBER SECURITY
NYP signed an MOU with the Singapore Army and STE Info-Security to customise a cyber defence curriculum. Meant to train Singapore Armed Forces personnel, this collaboration opened opportunities for the army to accelerate training efforts in their build-up of skilled human capital.
IOT AND ANALYTICS SOLUTIONS SIT collaborated with industry partners to develop IoT-based solutions. Two such tie-ups are the Health Management System project with local start-up, Witz-Health, to allow remote patient monitoring, and the Voice Biometrics IoT technology project with StarHub, to authenticate access to safe boxes.

In July 2018, 18 students from the Diploma in Digital Visual Effects worked on the military-themed Channel 8 drama When Duty Calls. The students created effects for explosions, earthquakes, and the visuals for private passenger and fighter jets. Guided by their lecturers, the students took three months to complete the project, and received much praise for their effort from Mediacorp and the Singapore Armed Forces.
MERRY TIDINGS FROM SIDM
SIDM and Suntec Singapore are into their second year of collaboration. Under this partnership, SIDM produces creative digital content for Suntec’s ‘The Big Picture’ - officially recognised as the World’s Largest High Definition Video Wall by the Guinness World Records. SIDM created a festive animation clip The Christmas Dance Off for Christmas, as well as animation clips for National Day and Lunar New Year.

LIGHTING UP NDP
For the 7th consecutive year, 14 final-year students from the Diploma in Motion Graphics & Broadcast Design (MGBD) were involved in creating animated motifs for the National Day Parade. This year’s project for the 52nd National Day Parade was bigger, higher and wider. Our MGBD students worked on a massive LED canvas and floor projections. With only a soundtrack to start with, they had to put their creative minds to work and ensure that the visuals transited smoothly from the stage to the floor projection.

ACADEMY OF LIFELONG LEARNING & SKILLS ALLS’ full-time and part-time courses cater to different spectrums of the adult learning community – from fresh graduates, to working professionals seeking to upgrade themselves or switch careers, to learners wanting to pick up new knowledge and skills through bite-sized courses.
INSTRUCTIONAL WORKPLACE TRAINING
The Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education & Training (SFIVET), the expert organisation for vocational education and training in Switzerland, is helping to train Singaporeans who will assume the role of master trainers here as the nation pushes ahead with skills training. ALLS collaborated with SFIVET to design a week-long programme for NYP staff.
