Page 3: Focus Group Feedback

Using web 2 technology, I created a focus group to find out my audience’s opinions on my magazine. As it is aimed at teenagers and students, I thought it would be best to carry this out on the social networking site – Facebook, as it is

associated more with the younger generation.

What target audience best suits this magazine?

Everyone I asked in the focus group chose teenagers and students as the most suitable target audience for my magazine which I intended to aim it at. In terms of gender, both genders was the most popular answer although some people did think the magazine was best suited to males. As I decided to aim my magazine at teenagers/students and both males and females but make the magazine more male orientated, I think I have made my magazine come across well to this audience.

What feature on the cover attracts you most to the magazine?

Before producing my front cover I carried out market research to see what people are most attracted to when they see a magazine. The majority answered main image or the main cover line therefore I took this into account and tried to make the main image and cover line the most eye catching feature on the cover. The results below show that this worked and that I have made these two features more interesting and noticeable than the other ones.

Out of the cover, contents page and double page spread, which one would you say it best and why?

Cover Page Contents Page Double Page Spread

These results show that if I was to do my magazine again, the contents page and cover page would need the most improvements as these were the least favourite to my target audience.

Would you buy my magazine? Why?

86% of the people I asked said yes for the following reasons:

1. There is a good variety of bands 2. It looks professional 3. The cover lines and images are eye catching

The remaining 14% of the people I asked said no for one reason – because they didn’t like the genre of music within the magazine. This 14% were girls therefore not only does it prove that my conclusion from my market research is correct as girls tend to like more mainstream music, but it also shows that my magazine is more male orientated and would mainly be bought by that gender.

• Add more interviews • Add more reviews • Add more cover lines on the cover • Make the price more noticeable

How could I improve my magazine?
