Details I asked three guys aged 16-19 years old to answer my questionnaire designed

specifically for my target audience. These questions featured mainly asked for their preferences when it comes to Rap Music Magazines.

Their answers have influenced me in the root I am going to take when making my own Rap Music Magazine and what themes, colours, artists etc, appeal to them more. This will allow me to create a magazine that will appeal to not only them but hopefully all of the fans of Rap music.

Results to Question 1 & 2I got various results from question one from

my three focus group participants. They often listen to music either every so often or everyday. This was vital for me to get these results so that I would know that I was talking to rap fans.

I also asked how rap music made them feel, this was a general question to help me understand how they felt towards rap music. Getting these results will help me create the theme of my rap music magazine. I got results that showed me that they were happy or relaxed when listening to rap music, they also said that rap music helps them forget about stress and troubles for a while.

Results from Question 3 This question will help me understand what

my rap fans prefer on the front cover of a rap magazine. I decided to get two different images with different themes and colours.

I found that two of them preferred the magazine with Jay Z on it because of the colours are more masculine due to the colour scheme of black and yellow. These colours compliment each other more than the other magazine with red and white.

They also told me that they preferred the magazine on the left because one they prefer that rapper and two they do not want to see a topless male artist on the front of the magazine like it is with the Rolling Stone one.

This question has helped me due to the fact that now I know that my target audience do not want a topless artist on the front of their magazine and that they also want an artist that they like listening to.

Results from Questions 4 & 5Q4- My focus group agreed with my idea of the

magazine being called ‘OPEN MIC’ because they could see the link between rap and the name due to them knowing about many hip hop artists starting from nothing and going to rap battle events to try and get recognised. From these results I am going to keep the name because my target audience understand the name and think that it is creative.

Q5- out of the three rap fans that answered this question, two of them wanted to see a male artist as they believe that having a male artist they can aspire to be like their favourite male artist. Also they believe that rap is predominantly male artists so having a female artist will not sell as well because they wont be as popular. Although one of them said they would prefer a female because they would find it attractive and believe that it will sell more. I will be going with a male artist because I believe that men are predominantly fans and artists in this genre but to also counteract this I will have a sell line with something to do with ‘eye candy of the year’ so that I can balance my audiences needs.

Results from Question 6

This question will help me understand who my target audience prefer to feature in my rap magazine. All three of them went with a male artist and cancelled out the females because they prefer the music that comes from the male artists over the others. This has guided me to feature more male artists in my magazine over female, but I will still feature some female artists.

Results from Question 7 From this question I can fin d out what

rap fans actually want in a rap magazine, this will allow me to appeal the magazine to more rap fans and to help the magazine sell.

My focus group said that they prefer all of them and that they can’t pick just one but if they had to pick three they would pick;

- Exclusives, Posters and Concert Dates.Because of these results I am going to feature these in my magazine, not just these three but I am going to feature all of these aspects for the magazine.

Results from Question 8 The results that I received from this

question were equal in deciding what costume they preferred an artist to wear. They said that they would like it to change with different artists, so that each issue could have a different style of costume so that it would keep the magazines fresh. They said that it also depends on who the artist is, for example, having an artist like Snoop Dogg in a suit would not look right and they would prefer seeing him in his normal clothes so gangster. And artists like Kanye West you could see in either smart or causal wear.

But my focus group also said that they would prefer the artists to show their jewellery and maybe some tattoos.
