Introduction• Since taking office, President

Goodluck Jonathan has implemented substantial and wide ranging efforts to improve Nigeria’s infrastructure after years of neglect by previous administrations.

• Key achievements will be demonstrated.

Page 4: Fmp

• Released the Roadmap for Power Sector Reform laid out a strategy for expanding capacity, improving service delivery, and removing obstacles to private sector investment.

• Instituted the Presidential Action Committee on Power (PACP) and the Presidential Task Force on Power (PTFP) to drive the implementation of reforms in the power sector.

• Privatized the power sector, unbundling PHCN into 11 distribution companies (DISCO’S) and 6 generation companies (GENCO’S) and a single transmission company (TCN), and positioning the sector to respond adequately to growing power demands. The sale of PHCN’s assets was the largest and most transparent privatization transaction in Nigeria to date.

Operation Light Up Rural Nigeria (OLRN) Initiative

• An initiative to enhance Access-to-Electricity/Power across Nigeria by exploiting Renewable Energy sources: Solar, Wind, Biomass (waste-toPower), etc.

#TheJonathanReport

Page 13: Fmp

• Mr. President commissioned these on January 13th , 2014, thus flagging off OLRN Initiative• Plan is fully underway to replicate OLRN pilot across the 36

states of the Federation• About 10 states are planning to declare Operation Light-up in

their respective states in line with OLRN initiative and the Transformation Agenda of Mr. President• Based on energy-efficient lighting systems, comprising of

photosensitive top-of-the-line Light –Emitting-Diodes (LEDs) and Energy hubs, powered by micro off-grid solar, wind or biomass technologies.
