The changes at both facilities will be significant: the current plan for QP includes the relocation of Roger Williams Way to create a larger waterfront “campus”, as well as several new buildings that eventually may add up to 500,000 square feet of new production space over the next 10 years detail design for a new module transport barge (to supplement Sea Shut- tle) has been put out to bid – the barge will have twice the capacity of the Sea Shuttle the plan for Groton includes a new production facility in the South Yard for Columbia Class construction and a new floating drydock for launch- ing Columbia As you might imagine, facility changes of this magnitude will require exten- sive coordination with Navy, federal, state & local officials, as well as a host of contractors for the design and construction of these new facilities. Few at Quonset would argue that facility expansion needs to start as soon as possible so teams are already in place, working on the details for these new facilities. Over the next few months, plans for the first new building at QP will be firmed-up so that design of this building can begin, after which the manage- ment team will be able to share the details. It is expected that ground for this building will be broken within a year. With all this expansion there will also be challenges – most importantly, construction of these new facilities can’t impact performance on our existing Virginia Class work. So, what does FMP mean to me? It means that our business is growing and if we achieve our performance goals, we’ll all have plenty of work for the fore- seeable future… Kirk Daniels Senior Manager of Engineering, Planning & Material

“FMP” is the EB acronym for the Facility Master Plan and it is our vision for how Quonset Point and Groton are going to physically expand to meet the increase in production volume for the Virginia Block 5 Payload Module (VPM) and the Columbia SSBN Program (formerly ORP) in the years ahead. The changes at both facilities will be significant: the current plan for QP includes the relocation of Roger Williams Way to
create a larger waterfront “campus”, as well as several new buildings that eventually may add up to 500,000 square feet of new production space over the next 10 years
detail design for a new module transport barge (to supplement Sea Shut-tle) has been put out to bid – the barge will have twice the capacity of the Sea Shuttle
the plan for Groton includes a new production facility in the South Yard for Columbia Class construction and a new floating drydock for launch-ing Columbia
As you might imagine, facility changes of this magnitude will require exten-sive coordination with Navy, federal, state & local officials, as well as a host of contractors for the design and construction of these new facilities. Facilities Update - The Nuclear Pipe Shop
To accommodate additional work we are expanding the Nuclear Pipe Shop. Here is the 3 phase plan:
Phase 1 – Rearrangement of the Existing Nuclear Pipe
This phase has been designed to create the space needed to support current D904 Nuclear Pipe Shop hiring plans in the current space constrained shop. The expansion of production space into the current supervisor office and Test Space, which will be used for small pipe detail fabrication, will in-crease the area to nearly 9,000 square feet.
Phase 2 – Relocation of the Electric Shop
The next phase relocates the D903 Electrical Shop from its current location to the former MDC across the courtyard. This increases the Electrical Shop from its current 22,000 to 26,000 square feet, an increase of 18%.
Phase 3 – Relocation of the Nuclear Pipe Shop
This phase of this project relocates the Nuclear Pipe Shop from its current location to the former Electrical Shop. This will more than double the shop’s size from its post-Phase 1 area of 9,000 to 22,000 square feet. This space is required to support reducing D904 backlog associated with materi-al availability issues and increase the packaging footprint.
