Semiotics is the science of revealing sign systems by identify-ing the limits of any given discourse. Sign processes, or semio-sis, make the world meaningful. The 2-year Master’s programme in Semiotics provides an interdisciplinary background and gives a theoretical base for the application of semiotic ideas, methods and models to a wide variety of disciplines and scientifi c study.

Graduates can use their expertise in professions that require a complex knowledge of cultural analysis, e.g. consulting com-panies, marketing or media. Practical applications of semiotics include translation and editing, design and architecture, advertis-ing and communication strategies. Programme graduates can also pursue PhD studies and research.

The programme welcomes students with a background in philosophy as well as students from other disciplines who have an interest in the philosophical issues raised by those disciplines. For example, a student of linguistics could enroll and study philosophy of language, mathematicians can study the philosophy of mathematics or logic, biologists and medical students can work on medical ethics and bioethics, chemists and physicists have important topics to address within philosophy of science.
