Core Areas of Learning: English We will be travelling into an ancient forest inhabited by tribal people and a demon possessed bear using the text, ‘Wolf Brother’ by Michelle Paver. We will enrich this text by going on a school trip to Hampstead Heath to engage in some outside writing hosted by the Hampstead heath Education Centre. We will cover; non-chronological reports, building tension, atmosphere and suspense in a narrative, sentence starters, setting descriptions using the senses, pronouns, relative clauses, character description, adverbial phrases, dialogue with action, poetry, recounts and persuasive writing. Maths We will focus on Geometry. In particular, we will identify 3D shapes, including cubes and other cuboids, from 2D representations. We will also use the properties of rectangles to deduce related facts and to find missing lengths and angles. Science We are undertaking a cross- curricular, ‘Climate Change Project,’ where the children will be conducting research and producing reports on climate science including meteorology. Computing Children have enjoyed producing Enrichment Areas of Learning: Topic As part of the ‘Climate Change Project’ the children will investigate the effect of deforestation on the ‘lungs of the world’ – the Amazon Rainforest. They will also look at the work of Greta Thunberg and the extinction rebellion on raising the profile of the current climate crisis. RE Children will focus on understanding some of the teaching of Christianity and the meaning of celebrations around Easter. Art & Design Year 5 will be producing a huge mixed- media piece of artwork for display in the hall as part of our ‘Climate Change Project’. PE Our focus in Summer will be on athletics. Music Building on the skills that they have acquired so far in our guitar sessions, year five will be learning more complex chord structures and songs that use multiple chords.
