1911Gustav Otto, an aviator, constructing engineerand entrepreneur, founds the aircraft factory“Gustav Otto Flugmaschinenwerke” in Munich. In March 1916, this company is integrated intothe Bavarian aircraft factory “BayerischeFlugzeugwerke”. This is considered to be thebirth of the later Bavarian Engine Company “Bay-erische Motorenwerke” (BMW).

1920After World War I, the Munich engine factory“Otto Werke” launches a bike with an auxiliarymotor. This is the birth of the brand name “Flottweg”.

1932Dr. Georg Bruckmayer acquires the rights of theprotected name “Flottweg” and founds the enginefactory “Flottweg Motoren-Werke”. In 1933, thecompany starts manufacturing and distributingmotorbikes and components for aircraft engines.

MUNICH 1920

1943Due to World War II, the Flottweg headquartersare relocated to Vilsbiburg and the company produces precision parts for the printing industry.

1953In the 50s, the company starts to develop the firstcentrifuges as a second business sector.

1956The first Flottweg Decanter, type Z1, is delivered

to BASF AG, Lud-wigshafen. From thistime onwards, de-canter centrifuges be-come the Flottwegcore product.

Gustav Otto, who was fascinated by technologyand mechanical engineering and who was theson of the inventor of the “Otto-Motore” engines, launches a bike with an auxiliary motor. This bikewas called “Flottweg” as the German words“flott” mean quick and “weg” on the way. This isthe birth of the brand name “Flottweg”.

The success of the company actually starts in 1932. Dr. Georg Bruckmayer acquires therights to the Flottweg Motor Factory. Despitethe economic crisis, he lays the milestone for aextraordinary mechanical engineering company.Initially, aircraft engines are built along with motorbikes. One milestone in the history of Flottweg isthe construction of solid bowl centrifuges, so-called decanters, in the fifties.

No matter whether it’s aircraft engines, motor-bikes or centrifuges: Engineering, the passion fortechnology and the joy to set new benchmarksagain and again, has been a part of our historyfor more than 80 years.

MILESTONES IN SEPARATION TECHNOLOGY ...

1993A centrifuge concept still unique to this day isborn: The Flottweg Sedicanter®, which combinesthe advantages of decanters and disk stack centrifuges.

1994The requirements for decanter drives are alwaysincreasing. Flottweg develops a milestone in decanter drive technology: The Flottweg SimpDrive®. The system automatically adapts tochanging conditions in the feed, differentialspeed adapts exactly to the required parameters.Due to the high separation efficiency of the drive, energy consumption sinks while dewatering effi-ciency increases.

1995Environmental protection and recycling are evergreater concerns for companies. This promptsFlottweg to develop the Sorticanter® for process-ing plastics. This centrifuge is able to separatedifferent types of plastic from one another. Thismeans operators can obtain the greatest possi-ble purity of plastic grades.

1999In order to be able to serve the Chinese marketeven better, Flottweg founds its own subsidiaryin Shanghai including offices and a workshop.

2002An important year for Flottweg. Peter Bruck-mayer, son of Dr. Georg Bruckmayer, releasesFlottweg from group affiliation and leads the com-pany to independency. This is the basis for thesuccess in the years to come.

2007Environmental centrifuge C series. Due to in-creasing environmental awareness and risingprices for energy and sludge disposal, require-ments for communal water treatment plants areincreasing. Flottweg develops the C series es-pecially to meet these requirements. The de-canter geometry and the features of these ma-chines are specifically adapted to the waste watersector. Due to the Simp Drive® concept these

ABSOLUTELY FREE OF PARTICLES …

… this is what thick extract has to be in the pro-duction of soluble coffee.

Customers expect perfect instant characteristicsof soluble coffee powder which means that thereshould be no insoluble solid particles in their cupafter brewing with hot water. To assure this, ourclarifier separates all insoluble solids from the extract using enormous acceleration forces of upto 9000 g. Even the finest particles are sepa-rated. This is how we make sure that there willbe a perfect instant product in the cup later. That’s how a day should begin …
