The Florida State University Schools Student Government
Association Executive Board includes a Leadership Skills class. As
a member of this class, students will be responsible for planning
and organizing middle school events, completing community service
projects, and learning and applying various leadership skills. This
is an active class that involves a commitment. Part of the grading
for the Leadership class will be based on attendance, planning, and
participation in FSUS events outside of the classroom. Students
will also be responsible for making a portfolio of his/her
leadership progress. SGA members are the representatives of our
school; therefore, we are looking for students who are outgoing,
positive, hardworking, honest, and work well with teachers and
fellow students. If you are participating in class elections or
looking to be a member of the Executive Board you will need to
complete an interview. Please be mindful that professional dress is
recommended and encouraged for the interview.
Dates to Remember
April 27: Teacher Recommendation Forms due Mr. Williams-Clark or
Ms. Williamson in Student Services. These forms are required to be
in the Leadership class. If you are interested in being in the SGA
you must also have the recommendation form.
May 3: SGA Interviews will take place throughout the day in the
Administrative conference room in the front office. You should
bring your completed and signed application with you to the
interview. Times for interviews will be assigned.
May 7 through May 11: Campaigns for SGA candidates
May 11: Elections
May 16: SGA Executive Board members and Class Officers will be
announced on the Morning Announcements.

Application Checklist:
The items below will need to be complete and submitted during
the interview time assigned to you. Remember, applications must be
submitted on time to be considered for recommendation.
Due: May 3
· Student Information Sheet
· Parent and Student contract (signed)
· Two (2) Teacher Recommendations (templates provided by SGA).
The teacher is to submit the letter directly to Mr. Williams-Clark
or given to Ms. Williams in Student Services. Recommendations
received directly from the student’s hands will not be
accepted.
· Minimal 3.0 Unweighted GPA (cumulative)
· Will you be running a campaign for class officer? ( Yes / No
)
If you choose to run for a class representative position (Class
President or Vice President), campaigns will run from May 7th – May
10th, and voting will be held on May 11th. You must meet all SGA
requirements and pass the interview process in order to be
considered for the ballot.
*Please note: While campaigning, you are permitted to create and
distribute “campaign” items (posters, buttons, fliers, etc.), but
you may NOT distribute anything that could be perceived as a
“bribe” (candy, money, prizes, etc.).

· Student Body President:
· The Student Body President shall be chair of the entire Middle
School student body (Grades 6-8) and the Executive board.
· They will schedule and delegate tasks for all SGA events to
other board members (Homecoming Week, Carnival, Fundraisers,
Community Service Projects, etc.)
· The president must attend and be on time for school events and
communicate with teacher advisors on a regular basis.
· They will be a model student, communicating respect for their
teachers and peers.
· The president will appear, as needed, on the school
announcements, updating the student body on Student Government
projects and events.
· They will serve as SGA’s community outreach – initiating and
maintaining communication with members of the community.
· They will be required to meet with the Vice President and
advisers regularly to discuss the upcoming SGA agenda.
· Student Body Vice-President:
· The Vice-President will assume all of the duties of the
President if he/she is unable.
· They will assist the President in coordinating all SGA events
and delegating tasks.
· They will share in the responsibility to report on the school
announcements, updating the student body on Student Government
projects and events.
· They will work closely with the president and adviser on
issues dealing with school events.
· They are required to meet with the President and advisers
regularly to discuss the agenda for SGA.
· They will be required to attend every SGA meeting.
· Secretary:
· Serve as the communication point-person between the members
and the advisor
· Keep SGA paperwork filed and organized
· Track members’ participation in SGA event and community
service activities
· Create and maintain checklists and to-do lists for SGA
advisor
· Executive Board Logistics Team
· Is expected to think through the details of all events, plan
around any “kinks” that need to be worked out, and proactively
divide tasks among team members.
· Create the agenda, instructions, sign-up sheets, and lists
concerning SGA events.
· Will be responsible for finding creative solutions and problem
solving.
· Will coordinate ideas with others teams and delegate tasks
where appropriate.
· Will organize supply orders, receipts, or other important
lists or documents.
· Must attend SGA events in and outside of school.
· Executive Board Activities Team
· Implement all SGA ideas and events.
· Will run errands, talk to teachers, and complete tasks as
needed for SGA events.
· Communicate with other executive board members, faculty, and
staff for activities.
· Work with decorating committee to decorate for school

· Will help with setup and tear down at events and
activities.

· Organize advertising for EVERY SGA event.
· Creates and designs posters, fliers, and advertising messages
for events and activities.
· Brainstorms decorations ideas and themes.
· Compiles pictures for yearbook and other events.
· Creates for theme days, homecoming court, and SGA events or
activities as needed.
· Must attend SGA events in and outside of school.
· Class President and Vice President for Grades 6th, 7th, &
8th grades
(You will need to run for these positions; voting for the
positions will be on May 11)
· They are the liaison between the class and the sponsor.
· They create fundraisers for their class.
· They organize monthly class meetings.
· They design, sell, and distribute t-shirts for their
class.
· They make class decisions based on the needs and desire of the
class
