Citrus Bowl History

Originally call Orlando Stadium and constructed as a Works Project Administration project during Franklin Roosevelt’s administration in 1936 with a capacity of 8,900

The stadium was renamed the Tangerine Bowl during a renovation in 1947 adding 2,000 seats

5,000 more seats were added in 1968, along with the first press box.

The stadium underwent an expansion from 1974 to 1976, to bring the total seating capacity to 50,000

After re-naming the stadium in 1983 to the Florida Citrus Bowl, a capacity of 65,438 was established in 1989, after a $38 million renovation that added the upper decks.

1999-2002 improvements included escalators, seat bottoms and a new video board.

AstroTurf added in 2010 during a $10M renovation

Current Capacity is 70,000
