house do not have food to survive and appropriate place to sleep at night since their belongings

were swept away or damaged completely by the filthy muddy flood. Some of the homeless

people have managed to live under the roof of locally made tarpaulin, however, the safe shelter

have become a vital to protect them from rain as well as potential waterborne diseases.

In Jhapa LPEP mop-up activities is still going on but some affected people approached the

LPEP team and said, "We need food and shelter instead of taking single dose of Rifamipicin". The relief materials are being distributed through the team of representatives from local authority, newly elected team, existing CBOs, active NGOs in the local community so that the

distribution would be fair and appropriate however, people are complaining that the relief materials are being distributed very slowly.

Susmita Mahato studies in a Primary School in the

nearby village at Madi, Chitwan. She has left leg

amputation and uses artificial limbs provided by the

Leprosy Mission Nepal. The artificial limbs have

helped her go to school and perform daily household

works. A girl from poor neighborhood spent her

childhood with her parents in a house made by mud

and breaks with hardly enough food to sustain the life

but she has no house to protect her from the heavy

rains and burning sun anymore. On August 12 2017,

Susmita house could not hold its strength to stand

strong. Now, the homeless family is forced to stay in

the neighbor’s house as internally displaced people.
