Media Production Accomplishments - 1

Developed and implemented Work Order database to produce customer invoices and monthly administrative reports (digital file of sample report)

Distributed Media Production brochure and made seven “Media Production On the Road” visits to colleges

Shot approximately 1,000 hours of classroom activities Supported 235 hours of Distance Learning Room class activities Created new graphic identity for Cable Channel 21 and Cable

Channel 22 Kicked off the Academic Access series with seven programs and

Connected Distance Learning room using an Internet Protocol address to test future programming capabilities with a university in Turkey

Designed and produced materials for the Jim Crow Museum exhibits and fundraising activities as well as for the rededication of Williams Auditorium

Provided video support for the Spaghetti Bridge Contest, the Jack Hanna presentation, and the FSU Hall of Fame banquet

FLITE 2005/06 Initiatives – Learning-Centered University

Launched or substantially enhanced access to digital and conventional library materials (MeLCat patron-initiated interlibrary loan, state-wide courier delivery service, SFX full-text database integration).

Continued serials subscription conversion from microform to digital.

Expanded test group for e-Reserve program rollout. Offered application and tech-oriented professional development

sessions (FLITEC and InFLITE) to increase FLITE faculty and staff competencies.

Developed and deployed staff development activities tracking database

FLITE 2005/06 Initiatives – Work Together

Completed merger of Reference and Instruction and Circulation Services departments to form a new Public Services department.

Concluded FLITE CTA position audits, resulting in rewritten CTA job descriptions and upgrade of eleven positions, resolving salary inequities between FLITE employees and those working in other campus units.

Continued internal policy, procedure, and work process documentation effort; presently adding content to FLITE’s intranet.

Launched a substantial Media Production advertising effort to promote services; completed a work order tracking program to monitor outcomes.

Provided ongoing training spaces in FLITE to support the Banner Project.

FLITE 2005/06 Initiatives – Create an Engaged Campus

Continued development of W.N. Ferris website to support FSUS program.

Installed software and hardware to create the Ferris Institutional Repository (FIR) which will eventually provide perpetual storage space for valuable digital materials created by and about the University community.

Concluded hosting agreements for the Michigan Health Science Librarians Assn. archives and increased acquisition of local history materials.

Followed long-standing commitment to provide space for on and off-campus organization meetings and conferences.

General

In support of Grants and External Contracts Task Force, FLITE will upgrade its single-user license for the digital Foundation Directory to a campus-wide license. Investigate feasibility of hosting a Foundation Center Cooperating Collection.

Develop plans to maintain integrity of FLITE’s electronic functionality in light of IT support changes proposed by ATS and TAC.

Evaluate and plan for FLITE space utilization to address the issues of Shelving that was expected to last until 2016 is now 90% full Repurposing space freed by FCTL and TAC departures to

support FLITE service expansion

Library Systems and Operations (LSO)

Activate interdepartmental partnerships between LSO and Public Services to promote the use of new books, including showcasing of new titles, adding cover art and tables of contents to online catalog, and reinstating a monthly New Books list on the library web site with links to catalog records, cover art, etc.

Evaluate means of enhancing access to print periodicals, including shelving arrangements.

Launch pilot project over the next year to provide access to 27,000 academic, electronic books from ebrary.

Continue Media Production’s support of classroom instruction by promoting use and expansion of their customized services.

Continue outreach through “Media Production On the Road” exhibit to each of the colleges; continue to be proactive in soliciting and guiding projects, and continue to present at prominent events such as Faculty Week, New Faculty Orientation, and Topics in Teaching sessions.

Continue to help support student recruitment through the design, production, and distribution of marketing materials.

Public Services

Continue assessment efforts, particularly with regard to library instruction and reference services.

Expand existing training activities to include reference-related training for library assistants and part-time staff.

Create and/or review and revise FLITE copyright guidelines and procedures to govern electronic reserves, traditional reserves, interlibrary loan, etc.; these should be tied to the university’s copyright policy.

Implement ILLiad interlibrary loan software to increase efficiency, reduce processing time, and gather data.

Special Collections

In view of many upcoming faculty retirements, launch a directed solicitation effort to encourage the donation of personal papers to the Archives. Coordinate effort with colleges and the emeriti association.

Complete transition following retirement of Ray Dickinson and assignment of Paul Kammerdiner as Government Documents Librarian.
