Additional monitoring tools

Inmarsat is providing two new tools:• A cut down version of the GES GUI is provided to DPs to assist

their troubleshooting. Signal Units, voice logs, and data logs are all provided for the DP’s AES • This should facilitate quicker and more accurate support to be

provided by DPs

• ADS and CPDLC latency data is decoded in GES, and can be analysed by Inmarsat using latency monitoring tools which are similar to the FAA’s GPATS tool• Greater visibility will permit closer scrutiny of adherence to ANSP’s

performance requirements (i.e. GOLD), assist in day-to-day troubleshooting, and should facilitate performance improvement

SwiftBroadband oceanic safety

SwiftBroadband has been in service since October 2007, and now has widespread use for non-safety applications

• SwiftBroadband uses the Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) platform.

• Uses I-4 L-Band satellites and Satellite Access StationsThe SwiftBroadband Oceanic Safety Programme enhances Inmarsat’s existing SwiftBroadband service to provide voice and data safety services and prioritized IP.• Meeting ICAO GOLD RCP240• Meeting the requirements for support of 30/30 NM operations• Meeting the required high service availability and message latency• Achieving spectrum and cost efficiencies over Classic Aero

Overview

SwiftBroadband safety project overview

The Inmarsat SwiftBroadband Oceanic Safety implementation programme comprises the following activities:• Implementation of an ACARS Ground Gateway (AGGW) at the Inmarsat

Satellite Access Stations (SASs) to carry FANS/ACARS safety messages• Update to SwiftBroadband voice networks for prioritised CS + PS voice• Standardisation of airborne terminal equipment for airlines with the AEEC

Air-to-Ground Communications Subcommittee (AGCS)• Three ARINC 781 equipment configurations have been included to satisfy

the requirements of different airframes• Development of Minimum Aviation System Performance Standards (MASPS)

– Now in final PMC review• Development of Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS) for

airborne terminals by the RTCA SC-222 – Due end 2013• Development of an ICAO technical manual
