However, since August 2015 its use has been prohibited by EU regulations, due to its longevity, bioaccumulation and toxicity. The flame retardant formulation of foams is therefore being modified to increase safety for both humans and objects. The use and investigation of alternative flame retardants is therefore an important research topic at Fraunhofer ICT. 1
