Members of FFDTC believe that any dog can learn basic obedience commands when taught with a consistent and positive approach. We believe dog ownership is a lifetime commitment and that training helps build a positive bond between dog and person. Just like children, dogs must be taught how to behave at home and in public.

Experienced club members teach all public classes. Our instructors teach methods of positive reinforcement that will make training fun for both you and your dog. Training your dog in a group situation will afford your canine friend the opportunity to learn how to behave and pay attention to you around a group of people and other dogs. You will also learn more about “reading” the behavior of your dog as well as others.

The club typically holds four or five sessions annually. Visit our website (www.fiveflagsdogs.com) for dates, location, cost and registration information. Most classes meet one hour per week for seven weeks

C l a s s L e v e l s

• Beginner Obedience — Dogs 4 months and older We teach the basic commands of heel, sit, down, stay, come and others you will use in everyday life with your dog. (Class size may vary from 6-12 per class).

• Advanced Obedience — Four-week sequel to Beginner Obedience

Taught by our experienced club instructors, these sessions often include skills required to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test, which is given at the final class.

Remember, it is important to spend a short time training each day (15 to 30 minutes) to reinforce what is learned in class. Practice at home will make your dog a wonderful companion.

A recent addition to the AKC inventory of titles is scent work. The club may offer member classes for this activity based on demand and availability of qualified instructors.
