agility, endurance and control. The

movements involved in gymnastics

contribute to the development of the arms,

legs, shoulders, chest

and abdominal muscle groups. Alertness,

precision, daring, self-confidence and self-

discipline are mental traits that can also be

developed through

gymnastics.[1] Gymnastics evolved from

exercises used by the ancient Greeks that

included skills for mounting and

dismounting a horse, and from circusperformance skills.

Tennis is a racket sport that can be

played individually against a single

opponent (singles) or between two

teams of two players each (doubles).

Each player uses a tennis racket that

is strung with cord to strike a hollow

rubber ball covered with felt over or

around a net and into the

opponent's court. The object of the

game is to play the ball in such a way

that the opponent is not able to play

a valid return. The player who is

unable to return the ball will not gain a point, while the opposite player will.

A combat sport, or fighting sport, is a competitive contact sport with

one-on-one combat. Determining the winner depends on the particular

contest's rules. In many fighting sports, a contestant wins by scoring

more points than the opponent or by disabling the opponent. Mixed

Martial Arts, Boxing, Wrestling, Savate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Tae

Kwon Do, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Sambo are examples of combat sports.

Arnis, also known as Kali or Eskrima, is

the national sport and martial art of the

Philippines. The three are roughly

interchangeable umbrella terms for the

traditional martial arts of

the Philippines ("Filipino Martial Arts," or

FMA) that emphasize weapon-based

fightingwith sticks, knives, bladed

weapons and various improvised weapons.

It is also known

as Estoque (Spanish for rapier), Estocada(

Spanish for thrust or stab)

and Garrote (Spanish for club).

In Luzon they may go by the name of Arnis

de Mano.

Taekwondo was developed during the

1940s and 1950s by various martial artists

by incorporating elements

of karate and Han Chinese Kung-Fu with

traditional Korean martial arts traditions

such as Taekkyeon, Subak, Gwonbeop as

well as ancient Han

Chineseinfluenced Korean Kung-Fu styles

such as Tang Soo Do (aka. "The Way of the

Chinese Tang Dynasty Emperor's

Fist".[4][5] The oldest governing body for

taekwondo is the Korea Taekwondo

Association (KTA), formed in 1959 through

a collaborative effort by representatives

from the nine original kwans, or martial arts schools, in Korea.
