Intelligent, aggressive, and meticulous Marine Corps Officer who thrives in thestressful and dynamic environment of combat operations. One of the best MaintenanceOfficers I have served with, far ahead of his peers and most senior to him, I wouldactively seek to take him to a VMFA squadron. As the RS stated already, the success ofthe Det so far rests squarely on our Maintenance Department and the leadership andabilities of 1stLt Alwell. His potential is limitless and he will excel in the mostdemanding Situations. A must for resident PME and retention, selected for Captain.

1stLt Alwell's knowledge of Naval Maintenance publications and procedures are rarelyseen in someone of his rank and military experience. His effort in the maintenancedepartment resulted in a readiness rating above 93 percent, always preparing themaintenance team to be forward leaning and achieving a high expectation ofperformance. This authoritative and commanding presence has positively impacted eachand every Marine assigned to the Maintenance Department. What makes this so remarkableis his short experience as a Marine Officer and squadron level Maintenance Officer. Heconsistently performs at a level superior to 6004 Maintenance Material ControlOfficers (MMCO), with multiple years of MALS and squadron level experience, without aformal MMCO education. On multiple occasions, the MALS Production Control Officer(PCO) and AMO have commended 1stLt Alwell for being one of the best MMCOs assigned toMarine Air Group-Afghanistan (MAG-A). His efforts have brought credibility to themaintenance department, improving our ability to quickly receive assistance withoutquestion. His decisions and professionalism are trusted by the MALS PCO and AMO,allowing the detachment to go outside the Naval Supply System (NAVSUP) supply chain, directly to theater Air Force supply assets. He also has effectively tracked the lackof NAVSUP supportability, and briefed supply demand data to MALS. This effort willpositively impact future Marine Corps KC-130J squadrons that may face similar Non-Mission Capable degraders and delays. 1stLt Alwell's reliable, responsive, andarticulate leadership have made him a valuable leader and Marine. He has unlimitedpotential and is highly recommended for promotion, career designation, and residentPME. Directed Comment, SECT A, Item 3c: The MRO was in direct service support withinthe immediate combat area of Operation Enduring Freedom.
