FIS/xee® Workbench The Development Environment for FIS/xee®

Information flows within companies but also across corporate boundaries are increasingly accelerating. Moreo-ver, users work with a variety of diffe-rent techniques and formats. Compa-nies that are able to respond quickly to such changes have major advanta-ges vis-à-vis competitors. The FIS/xee® Workbench enables you to quickly and reliably respond to such requests.

FIS/xee® Workbench

Whether classical business integra-tion processes, such as EDI based on standard formats (EDIFACT, VDA etc.), or Web service scenarios are concer-ned: the FIS/xee® Workbench used as a development environment will assist

you in the best possible way. The Work-bench is a submodule of the FIS/xee® all-in-one solution and the develop-ment tool for graphical mappings.

Graphical mapping

The graphical tool of the FIS/xee® Workbench is best suitable for flat data structures (keyword: CSV). The users can define rules for reformatting different formats without any further programming skills. Catalog data of different partners, for instance, is fre-quently converted into a standardized format and transferred to the target system, which is quite time-consu-ming. Graphical mappings help you simplify and accelerate this process.

The development process

The logic of formatting or conversion is mapped via easy-to-follow statements based on the programming language implemented by the FIS/xee® System. This language provides everything from simple field assignments and in-dividually definable functions to com-plex algorithms in order to map inter-face processes in current surrounding systems. It is also possible, for instance, to integrate database queries or Web service look-ups into the processes.

The actual development process is ac-celerated using a comprehensive func-tion library. Coding will be generated by Drag&Drop and manual efforts reduced.

‘Code Snippets’ and ‘Smart Keys’ insert default statements. Value mappings, such as the conversion of units of mea-sure, can be easily controlled in SAP.

Standardized input and output struc-tures are provided by FIS. Individual structures based on databases, CSV files or XML data are automatically ge-nerated using the respective wizards. They can also be created manually.

Integrated test environment

At initial stages of implementation and according to the outlines of an agile software development, the developer will be given test support as well as sup-port for iterative further developments.

In this way, test data of a partner can be imported to the default structures and validated. The convenient debug-ger enables a detailed check of indivi-dual statements or the check of field contents relative to the runtime.

Mappings in the FIS/xee® System

Mappings are managed and versioned in a separate SAP transaction of the FIS/xee® Subsystem. After a system start with the Subsystem computer, for in-stance, mappings will automatically be synchronized. Using the corresponding interface, the version database integra-ted in SAP can also be accessed directly via the FIS/xee® Workbench.
