Join or Renew Your Membership Today November 9, 2007 marks the one year anniversary of Janet Chapman’s employment at the Museum. That was truly a great day for the Museum. Janet is not only very intelli- gent, she is gifted when it comes to working with chil- dren. Her background in education compliments her position here perfectly. Janet has made contributions in every area of the Museum. I sincerely hope Janet’s tenure with the Museum is long. We are fortunate to have someone with her personal- ity and capabilities working with us. Thank you, Janet. -Jean Director’s Line New Exhibit Opening a Big Success Members and guests whom at- tended the August 2nd grand opening of ,“Paradise Found- Pages From a Family Album” were treated to a special performance by International Recording Artist, Patrice Djerejian. Her most re- cent performances include Carne- gie Hall, Chicago’s Orchestra Hall & Millennium Park and Harris theatre. Patrice resides in New York and was at the opening with her Uncle Jerry Najarian, who lives in Destin. We were hon- ored when she accepted our invi- tation to sing. The evening’s quests were treated to an out- standing and most memorable appearance. Included in the performance was a special piece written as a tribute to honor special guest, Ida Calhoun Scott. Other special guests of the eve- ning included, Captain “Salty” Reddin Brunson, and Miss Des- tin 2007, Emily Kaltz. The evening’s visitors entered the Museum, were greeted by a photo of 5 year old Ida Calhoun, and guided thru the museum with photos and oral histories of Destin spanning the years of 1931 thru 1970. Photo & oral history videos played throughout the evening and copies were made available to purchase. It was an enjoyable and informative evening for all. The special exhibit was on display through October. If you missed the main exhibit please stop by the museum and view the condensed version, now a permanent exhibit at the Museum. You will be taken back in time to experience the “Paradise” which convinced many to make Destin their home. Our Director, Jean Melvin, attended the Florida Associa- tion of Museums (FAM) Con- ference in September and returned with fresh ideas and information. The conference provided a wonderful opportu- nity for her to network and bounce ideas off other mu- seum directors. We are busy carrying through some new ideas. Our goal is to continu- ally improve your museum experience. Stop in for a visit. Tetra Tech, an architectural firm hired by the city, unveiled new proposed plans for the city park land and the locations for the new Museum building. The CRA board will vote on the plans this Oct. 30th at 6pm, during a meeting at city hall, the public is wel- come. We will try to keep you updated as we acquire more infor- mation on where the future location of the new building will be. Jean attends FAM Conference
