Tennessee Golden Offering You will find in your pew an envelope for The Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions. Your offering provides resources that support missions and ministries of the Tennessee Baptist Convention. Half the offering is allocated to start new churches that can reach the millions of people in Tennessee who do not know Christ as Savior. The offering is named in honor of Dr. and Mrs. W. C. Golden. We Welcome Dr. George Schweitzer, September 15 Dr. Schweitzer earned his B.A. in Chemistry from Central College in 1945, his M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1946, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1948. Dr. Schweitzer also earned an M.A. in Philosophy from Columbia University in 1959, a Ph.D. in Philosophy from New York University in 1964, and was awarded a Sc.D. for his work in the history of science in 1965. He joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee in 1948, and has done and continues to do research and consult with several of the facilities at Oak Ridge: K-25, Y-12, ORNL, ORAU, AEC, UT-AEC, and ARP. [Dr. Schweitzer] has been the recipient of numerous awards, fellowships, and lectureships, including a National Science Foundation Faculty Fellowship (1959-60). Schweitzer is an alumni distinguished professor at the University of Tennessee and is the author of 19 genealogical guidebooks. Let's Play Golf Sunday October 13 at the Williams Creek Wee course at 2:00 pm. The format is a foursome scramble with a shotgun start. The cost is $35. There will be no prize ceremony or meal afterwards, but we can gather in the clubhouse and have refreshments from their supplies and a little bragging time together. New Church Pictorial Directory Be sure and sign up to have your picture made for our 170th Anniversary Church Directory. Sign ups for appointments will be on Sundays, September 15, 22, 29, and Wednesday, September 18. Appointment dates for your picture will be October 14, 15, 16, and November 1 and 2. Each family will receive a free 8 x 10 picture, a directory, and access to an online directory that we can update as needed with new members. It is a great time to have a family picture made for Christmas.
