Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. MENU: Chicken Tetrazzinni, Tossed Salad, Bread, As-sorted Desserts KIDS MENU: Macaroni and Cheese On a scale of 1-10, how do you rate yourself? How many likes do you get? Most of us, especially at school, measure how we’re doing by how everyone else is doing. This can be exhausting! All 6th-12th graders are encouraged to come to Youth Group (Sundays 5:15 p.m.-7:15 p.m. ) the next few weeks while we discuss ways to escape the comparison trap. Also, mark your calendars for Oct. 29th - we are playing kickball with our friends at First Bap-tist. Stay tuned for details! October Circle Meetings: Laura Davenport Circle - Tuesday, October 10, at 10:00 a.m. at the home of Sarah Joyner, 4231 Merck Road. Guest speaker - Kenny Baker from Samaritan’s Purse. Hope Circle and Joyful Hands will meet jointly on Tues-day, October 10th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Wesley Chapel. Guest speaker - Janie Baker from Samaritan’s Purse. The Bakers are Area Coordinators for the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox ministry. All ladies of the church are invited to attend. Christmas memorials are still available, including several outside door wreaths, one balcony wreath, and poinsettias in various sizes throughout the building. Please call Libby Baskervill to reserve a special remembrance in honor or memory of a friend or family member. 252.236.5884. Reminder: Collection cups for Rise Against Hunger need to be returned today, October 8th. Thank you, in ad-vance, for your generous contributions!

OUR RESPONSE
Sending Forth
Greeters for October 8: Lorrie and Chad Halverson, Teresa and Jack Payne
We thank the Praise Band for their ministry this morning.
From Pastor Bob:
Two weeks ago PBS began airing the documentary series Vietnam. Perhaps you watched. The graphic images were haunting and the accompanying narrative exposed details sur-rounding our involvement in the war that many found surpris-
ingly unknown.
Watching the program brought back many memories of the era when I grew up. There was one song that stood out in par-ticular for me that continues to speak to the current state of our nation. Stephen Stills wrote the song, For What It’s Worth, and
it was first performed by the band Buffalo Springfield.
There's something happening here, What it is ain't
exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there, Telling me I got to
beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound? Every-
body look what's going down.
As we gather on this Missions Sunday, it is impossible to ignore the horrific events which occurred in Las Vegas last Sunday. Like me, many are asking how something like this could happen again and what must we do collectively to trans-form the current mood of our nation. The struggle seems al-
most impossible.
We understand when Paul writes, “Our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil of this present darkness.” (Eph. 6:12) Something’s happen-
ing here – what can we do?
As a people of faith, we can lift prayers for the families who lost loved ones in the shooting. We pray for a swift and full recovery for all who were wounded. We lift our fervent prayers that hearts, minds, and behaviors of the people of this land will be transformed by the power and might of Christ Jesus. This all begins with each of us individually doing more than simply talk-
ing about praying; it involves actually praying.
Another stanza from Buffalo Springfield’s song goes:
Paranoia strikes deep, Into your life it will creep. It starts when
you're always afraid.
It's s time we stop, hey, what's that sound? Everybody look
what's going down.
Something is happening here. It is time for people to realize that as we focus on destroying one another for the sake of our opinion, we are, also, destroying this nation. Do not be afraid! May the sound being heard be the sound of God’s people pray-
ing!

OFFERTORY ANTHEM “Someday” Alan Menken (Please sign and pass the attendance pad.)
Someday when we are wiser, when the world's older, when we have learned; I pray someday we may yet live to live and let live. Someday life will be fairer, need will be rarer, greed will not pay. God speed this bright millennium on its way, let it come someday.
Someday our fight will be won, then we'll stand in the sun then that bright afternoon; ‘Til then, on days when the sun is gone, we'll hang on, and God’s love will rule. Change will come. One day, someday soon.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
