First Sunday of Advent NOVEMBER 29, 2015 "And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory". -- Luke 21:27 Today we enter in the advent lesson of hope and expec- tation. And as we reflect on today's Gospel Lesson, it would appear that Jesus is urging each of us to be ready and prepared. Jesus tells us in today's Lesson that the time will come when ... There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world; for the powers of the heaven will be shaken. Having spoken out about these dire events to come, Je- sus suddenly shifts gears, so to speak, and in the same breath adds these reassuring words: And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with great power and glory. Now, when these things begin to take place, raise your heads, because your re- demption is drawing near (Lk. 21:27). Jesus is telling you in today's Lesson that even when you get the feeling that the whole world is crashing down on you, it is still possible for you to "stand erect and hold your head high," because He, the Lord, is with you in all His power and glory. Even under the heaviest burden, it is still possible for you to say, I can hold my head high because I know the Lord is with me in all His power and glory." Our Christian faith offers us no illusion that we are a People chosen for exemption from pain and suffering. It holds no promise of a trouble-free life of easy comfort. It grants us no immunity from evil and its consequences. It makes no exception to the rule of God's judgment. Ra- ther, our Christian faith provides us with the spiritual equilibrium and the moral stamina we need to face up to the burdens and the fears and the evil days that overtake -- often in the most unexpected ways. The Christian life is not just a matter of saying, "The Lord is with us, the Lord is going to win the victory, so we'll just stand aside and let Him do it." On the contrary, if we genuinely believe He is going to win the victory, we will want to be a working part of this movement into the future. We will become more and more aware that God is using us as His instruments in the building of His Kingdom of Love. We will become more and more iden- tified with what He is doing by virtue of what we are doing in the world out there. Primer Domingo de Adviento

29 de NOVIEMBRE, 2015

“Entonces verán al Hijo

del hombre en una nu-

be, con gran poder y

majestad.

Paz y Bien, Padre Miguel Ceja HORA SANTA
