First Responder Support Tools (FiRST app): An Overview 2011: The Office of Bombing Prevention provides a concept and technical requirements to DHS’ Science and Technology Directorate’s TechSolutions Program for a mobile application to allow first responders to instantaneously calculate bomb stand-off distances. 2012: The multi-agency project team successfully designs a digitized, automated system that integrates and leverages other services provided through smartphones (mapping, positioning, communication, etc.) and other mobile technologies typically carried by first responders. 2012-2015: The FiRST app is made available through iTunes and Google Play. The app is downloaded by over 10,000 unique users. 2015: NPPD’s Federal Protective Service and Protective Security Advisors from the Office of Infrastructure Protection begin to pilot the FiRST app in a DHS operational environment. 1
