First Presbyterian Church, Twin Falls Idaho What Difference Does a Decade Make? Can you believe that we have been in ministry together now for 10 years? This past July marks the beginning of our eleventh year together as congregation and pastor. While ten years isn’t all that much, in comparison to our congregation’s 111-year-history, still, there is a lot that we have experienced together. Worship: we have gathered together for over 500 Lord’s Days of worship at 10 a.m. along with special services for church holidays and two different seasons of Lord’s Day worship at 8 a.m. for Morning Prayer as well as at 5 p.m. for Fireside Café. Christian Nurture this fall we will launch our 10 th year of LOGOS while we continue to offer a number of Bible studies and adult classes on Sunday mornings along with various studies and groups throughout the week. Pastoral Care: our ten years together have seen baptisms, weddings, funerals, a three month sabbatical and new members joining us along with families and friends moving out of the area or on to other congregations throughout the Magic Valley. Mission Work: we have filled an “Ark” worth of animals for Heifer International, provided assistance for numerous people through CAMP, cared for the congregation through the Board of Deacons, fed the hungry, housed 4K for Cancer, and spread Christmas Joy. Building & Grounds: we have seen our church outfitted with a new kitchen, stained glass windows, all-new exterior windows, windows in the classroom doors, a new roof over the old Scout Room, and plans for Building #3 being leased to Acorn School. These are just a few of the things we have done together over the past ten years and are continuing to pursue today; where else is God leading us? What Difference Does a Decade Make?

Can you believe that we have been in ministry together now for 10 years? This past July marks the beginning of our eleventh year together as congregation and pastor. While ten years isn’t all that much, in comparison to our congregation’s 111-year-history, still, there is a lot that we have experienced together. Worship: we have gathered together for over 500 Lord’s Days of worship at 10 a.m. along with special services for church holidays and two different seasons of Lord’s Day worship at 8 a.m. for Morning Prayer as well as at 5 p.m. for Fireside Café. Christian Nurture this fall we will launch our 10th year of LOGOS while we continue to offer a number of Bible studies and adult classes on Sunday mornings along with various studies and groups throughout the week. Pastoral Care: our ten years together have seen baptisms, weddings, funerals, a three month sabbatical and new members joining us along with families and friends moving out of the area or on to other congregations throughout the Magic Valley.

Mission Work: we have filled an “Ark” worth of animals for

Heifer International, provided assistance for numerous people through CAMP, cared for the congregation through the Board of Deacons, fed the hungry, housed 4K for Cancer, and spread Christmas Joy. Building & Grounds: we have seen our church outfitted with a new kitchen, stained glass windows, all-new exterior windows, windows in the classroom doors, a new roof over the old Scout Room, and plans for Building #3 being leased to Acorn School. These are just a few of the things we have done together over the past ten years and are continuing to pursue today; where else is God leading us?

collection plates. Christmas decorating in a new way

is being discussed. Andrew concert raised

approximately $700 which will be used to refurbish

and add to the bell choir room. The piano in that

room needs to find a home. Ideas are being

considered to find new choir members. Banners will

be replaced for July. July 21 is “quiz the pastor”

Sunday.

the pines the last weekend in July (contact Louise

Lanting), 4 K for Cancer on June 28th will serve them

June 2016 Stated Session Meeting

June 21st 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Room

Opening Sentences for Evening Prayer from “Glory

to God” page 28.

Present: Moderator, Phil Price; Elders: Robin

Olszynski, Darlene Annen, Margie Howard, Shirley

Harris, Rene Horner, Terry Nelson, Darryl Noren-

berg, Linda Parkinson, and Linda Foreman, Linda

Tuley, Clerk, Bob Parkinson, Treasurer. Absent:

Judy Pollow, Jerry Green, and Linda Howar ab-

sent.

Clerk of Session:

Darlene moved to accept minutes of the May Stated

Meeting as printed, S&P. Minutes of the called

meeting June 5th were not yet available.

Membership Actions: Shirley moved to remove

David Mead from the rolls (death date 6/9/16) S&P

Psalm –16 “Song of Trust and Security in God”

Old Business:

Terry Nelson gave an update on status of Acorn

School’s use/renovation of FPC. He gave the latest

figures we have from the city for what they would

require to refurbish building 3 to accommodate

Acorn School to rent from us. There are other

additional items we would need to complete, along

with their cost estimates.

A straw poll favored continuing the inquiry. Ses-

sion has committed up to $50,000 from reserves, a

$50,000 maximum matching donation has been

offered and the congregation would need to cover

the balance. That amount might qualify for the

innovation grant or a loan from the Presbytery,

which they have been encouraging participation in

recently.

We need to learn what potential extra costs beyond

$90,000.00. Terry will continue working on that,

Rene will look at the innovation grant and Darlene

will look at other potential educational grants.

SHOES FOR SCHOOL Circle 5 has voted to continue our local mission project which involves providing school shoes and socks for children of all ages in Twin Falls. We are asking the congregation for their help. Last year, this generous congregation donated 109, $20.00 Payless Shoe gift cards. WOW! THANK YOU!!! Again this year with the money donated, Payless Shoes gift cards in the amount of $20.00 will be purchased and donated to the At-risk Services Coordinator. She will disperse them on an as need basis. This service was very much appreciated last year. The shoes we provide bring smiles to many children who, for the first time have new shoes and socks for school.

We have received numerous thank you notes as well as a personal visit from JoAnn Gemar, At Risk Coordinator and Bill Brulotte, Director of Federal Programs for the Twin Falls School District to express their thanks and to present us with a certificate of appreciation. Thank you again for your generous giving. You are awesome!

**If you would like to donate, we have donation baskets on the tables in the fellowship room downstairs or you may contact Darlene Annen. We will be accepting donations through August 16th. School starts August 18th. Cash and checks are both accepted.
