October 2020 First Lutheran Church October Newsletter “We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers.” - 1 Thessalonians 1:2 In August 2013, my husband and I moved here from Dubuque, Iowa. That September marked the beginning of the next seven years. In those years I have felt so immensely blessed to be called your pastor. You have blessed my family in so many ways through the years, and in many ways we have grown together. After Pastor Lee retired, I knew this time would be a time of discernment for me. Over the past year and half, I have been in conversation with many of my colleagues discerning my next steps and where the Holy Spirit may be leading me. It is was great joy that I tell you I am being led into chaplaincy. I have accepted a position as an associate chaplain at Sanford in Bismarck. This also brings me sadness because it means saying goodbye to people I have grown to deeply care about. This was not an easy decision. I love First Lutheran Church and the people that make it the body of Christ. This congregation has formed and shaped me into the pastor I am today. You took a young seminary student and taught me what it means to be called pastor. You walked with me, and welcomed both of my sons. We have been through a lot of changes together. For the past seven years, as I have walked with you through both joy and pain, I have felt deeply blessed to be your pastor. One of the many gifts you have given me is the time and space to discern where the Holy Spirit is leading me. I believe without a doubt that the Holy Spirit is at work in this change as well. With this transition, I will no longer be able to serve as your pastor. This means that all funerals, weddings, and baptisms will be officiated by your current contracted or called pastor. This is done to allow both you and I the space to say goodbye and grieve. I will continue to hold First Lutheran and its people in my prayers. Wherever the Spirit leads me, I will carry First Lutheran with me, and I will always give thanks for each and everyone of you. Your next pastor will be truly blessed! “We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers.” - 1 Thessalonians 1:2
In August 2013, my husband and I moved here from Dubuque, Iowa.
