First Lady Letters to Pat Nixon

Virtually unnoticed (and originally misfiled) in the Nixon Library are a folder of letters written to Pat Nixon on March 16, 1993, on her 81st birthday. The former chief usher of the White House had quietly gotten word to the other living first ladies that Mrs. Nixon was quite ill and they rallied with birthday wishes and reminiscences, some dictated, some hand-written. Mrs. Nixon died three months later.
