Prior to our Thanksloving Feast she worked to give shut-ins at Woodbridge a hot Thanksgiving meal until her health declined and she needed help. Our ministry permitted her to carry on her tradition. She was instrumental coordinating this effort at Woodbridge. In the earlier days of Thanksloving she had youth at her church join with youth from our church to deliver meals to the residents. When that ended she had family and friends at Woodbridge help her deliver the meals. We will miss Sonya this year however Woodbridge residents will not miss their Thanksloving Feast meal. THANK YOU

Dear FBC Mt. Holly Family, Ashley and I had long known about Mount Holly being a faith community that truly shared the love of Christ with the world, but when we received your love offering, we were overwhelmed by your outpouring of love! Thank you so much, not only for your generous gift, but also for your thoughts and prayers as we continue our journey with Christ. It would not have been possible for us to follow God’s call without you. Your financial gift has gone a long way in making our transition much easier. Even more importantly, the love that we experienced at First Baptist prepared our hearts and encouraged us to go out into the world to share Christ’s love with others. Thank you for all that you have done for us! In Christ’s Love, Jeff & Ashley Spargo Members of First Baptist, Thank you so much for your wonderful pre-game meal last Friday. We appreciate your generosity and support. 2011 Warrior Varsity Football Team Dear Church Family,

Thank you so much for the phone calls, visits, cards, and most of all prayers during and after my recent hospitalization. The kindness of each one of you never ceases to amaze me. Rita and I are so happy and blessed to be a part of such a wonderful church.

Thankfulness… As you all well know, I often end my sermons with the proclamation: Thanks be to

God. Over the years, I have continually come back to the theme that we need to be ever thankful for all we have. We are a blessed people, and we need to remember the provider of our blessings.

I am not alone in this sentiment; I have pretty good company. The apostle Paul refers to the theme of thanks, thanksgiving, and thankfulness almost fifty times. Notice the theme as it permeates the following passages:

Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! II Corinthians 9:15 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord

Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3: 17 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God

in Christ Jesus for you. I Thessalonians 5:16-18 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and

built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7

I hope you noticed the theme so prevalent in Colossians. Colossians is one of Paul’s letters that we refer to as the “prison correspondence” (Philemon, Ephesians, and Philippians are the others). Paul wrote these works while imprisoned in Rome between the years of 62-64 AD. (By the way, I would say the two Timothy letters and Titus also come from this period.) In the middle of his imprisonment, Paul speaks of giving thanks to God.

In Nathaniel Philbrick’s Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War, Philbrick does a wonderful job tracing the history, both positive and negative, of the Plymouth pilgrims and others that came to the New World. Without whitewashing the brutality to the Native Americans, he described the devotion of the Pilgrims to making it in this New World. He told of their desire to make the New World the “city on a hill” that would be a beacon of Christ to the world.

He also told of their thankfulness. Thankfulness to survive the harrowing journey. Thankfulness to be alive after so many died. Thankfulness for the smallest advances in their earnest but meager endeavor in the New World.

I wondered if I would share that sense of thankfulness. Reading their traumatic story, it might be easy to become despondent. Indeed, despair might be the most natural reaction. At times, they were on the verge of gloominess. However, in the end, they, like Paul, could count their blessings.

I am very thankful to be your pastor. Like Paul, I thank God for you often. In times of turmoil and financial distress in our nation, we have been faithful and we have seen our offerings grow this year. While many churches have retrenched and retracted many ministries, we have moved forward in many areas.

I feel so blessed as your pastor to see our Facilities Team do so much to take care of our building, to see our WMU under Christie Batchelor move into new ventures, to see our youth and children learn more of the Scriptures, to see church members take care of hurting people in our midst. Like Paul, my greatest word for these and other blessings is: Thanks be to God.

If they and Paul could say words of thankfulness, how much more should we say the word? Indeed, as we travel through this month, let us all say: Thanks be to God.

    Grace & peace, Kendell Cameron

Title For All the Saints Hymn #: 355

    Tune: Sine Nomine

    Author: William How (1823-1897)

    Composer: Ralph Vaughn Williams (1872-1958)

Walter Walsham How wrote this majestic hymn for All Saints Day. It was first published in 1864. The hymn speak as its focus on the “communion of the saints” both on earth and in heav-en. Composer Ralph Vaughn Williams was the most significant figure in English Church Music in the first half of the twentieth century. He studied with Max Bruch and Maurice Ravel, and edited three important collections: “The English Hymnal,” “Songs of Praise,” and the “Oxford Book of Carols.”

For all the saints who from their labors rest, Who thee by faith before the world confessed,

Thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest: Alleluia! Alleluia!

Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might, Thou Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight; Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true light: Alleluia! Alleluia!

O may Thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold, Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,

And win with them the victor's crown of gold: Alleluia! Alleluia!

But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day; The saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on His way: Alleluia! Alleluia!

From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast, Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host,

Singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: Alleluia! Alleluia!

It may even include ice cream—possibly at Wendy’s! (that’s a leftover joke from last year!) The total cost will be $150 per person for double occupancy (other meals will be extra). Contact church office to reserve your spot. Our deadline has passed but we can add a few more if you call Kim ASAP.

Join us for this fun mission project as we work to help send those Operation Christmas Child boxes around the globe! We hope to take eligible youth to work in the warehouse for Operation Christmas Child on Wednesday, November 23—the day before Thanksgiving. We are wait listed at the moment, but we are hopeful we will get a spot (we have the last 3 years!). Depending on interest, we could go to dinner together before heading to the processing center. Participants must be 13 years or older to go. Also, we need some adult chaperones as well.
