About: The Bald Mountain Fire Tower, known also as Rondaxe Fire Tower, is located in the West Central Adirondacks near Old Forge, NY. The first tower, a wooden structure, was erected on the summit in 1912, and then replaced with the present steel structure in 1917. It is one of the most popular fire tower summits in the Adirondacks. The tower was manned by rangers seasonally until 1990, then closed and abandoned. Access: Turn onto the Rondaxe Rd (A NYS DEC sign marks the turn) and 0.2 mile on the left side of the Rondaxe Rd. is the parking area. ~ Be sure to register at all DEC Registration Points and to keep off of Private Property.
