From the 9th to the 12th of September, FiraTàrrega celebrates its thir-tieth edition with a range of artistic proposals that cover various gen-res and with the public places as the protagonist. It is an especiallyprolific year for spectacles that cross the frontiers of genres and fusethe most diverse disciplines and with a large-scale inaugural specta-cle with a strong visual impact by the company VoalàProject. It mustbe mentioned that, despite the adverse socioeconomic context, theBoard of the Fira and the management team have made great effortsto maintain the artistic quality of the spectacles and to continue tooffer special conditions for both the audiences and the accreditedprofessionals. Lastly, we must mention that, through its strategy of in-ternational promotion and projection, FiraTàrrega has the honour thisyear of hosting a representation of street arts from Ireland, with threecompanies.

Du 9 au 12 septembre, FiraTàrrega arrive à sa trentième édition avec un ensemble de propositions ar-tistiques qui embrassent divers genres scéniques et qui donnent le premier rôle à lʼespace public. Uneannée particulièrement prolifique en spectacles qui dépassent les frontières des genres et mêlent lesdisciplines les plus diverses. Le spectacle inaugural, dont se chargera la compagnie Voalà Projet, estde grandes dimensions et aura un fort effet visuel. Il convient de dire que malgré le contexte socio-éco-nomique défavorable, le Conseil dʼAdministration de la Fira et lʼéquipe organisatrice ont fait un grandeffort de contention afin de maintenir la qualité artistique des spectacles et pour continuer dʼoffrir desconditions avantageuses aussi bien au public quʼaux professionnels accrédités. Finalement, soulignerque FiraTàrrega a lʼhonneur dʼaccueillir, cette année, une représentation des arts de la rue irlandaise,avec la présence de trois compagnies de cette origine et cela, comme fruit de sa stratégie de diffusionet projection internationale.

For the inauguration of FiraTàrrega 2010, the Catalan producer Free Art and the company Voalà offer us a large format multi-disciplinary proposal, with a kinetic sculpture like the urban artistic interventions, a visual aerial space raised above the au-dience where the choreographies of a group of acrobats hang against a backdrop that plays with the optical effects. A spectaclewhere such concepts as circularity, movement and illumination are fundamental, in the style of a giant mobile hanging from animaginary ceiling. A proposal that will touch the spectators’ deepest emotions, with live music, projections, spectacular imagesand the sky as the backdrop.
La productrice catalane Free Art et la compagnie Voala Project nous offrent pour lʼinauguration de FiraTàrrega 2010 une proposition multidisciplinaire de grand for-mat avec une sculpture cinétique à la façon des interventions artistiques urbaines, un espace visuel aérien élevé au-dessus du public dans lequel évoluent les cho-régraphies dʼun groupe dʼacrobates suspendus avec un un arrière-fond qui joue sur les effets optiques. A spectacle built around a selection of tales by the writer and journalist Joan Bar-ril, a series of short stories and surprising characters who take a sharp, modernand reflexive view of our world. With this theatrical proposal for adults, Anna Ro-ca’s company adopt a new line in their career after thirteen years dedicated tofamily theatre, flanked by Josep M. Miró in the adaptation and direction and byRoberto G. Alonso in the stage movement.
Spectacle construit à partir dʼun choix de contes de lʼécrivain et journaliste Joan Barril, une suite de pe-tites histoires et de personnages surprenants qui jettent un regard percutant, actuel et réfléchi sur notremonde. Avec cette proposition de théâtre pour adultes, la compagnie dʼAnna Roca prend un tournantdans sa carrière au bout de treize ans de travail consacré au théâtre familial , auprès de Josep M. Mirópour lʼadaptation et la direction et de Roberto G. Alonso pour le mouvement scénique.
Designed as a recital based on texts by Apel·les Mestres, this spectacle is madeup of eight monologues performed by the well-known actors Jordi Boixaderasand Lluís Soler accompanied on the piano by Lluís Carmona. Eight entertainingcaricatures, perfectly drawn, that mesh into a unitary staging, thanks to the com-plicity that is generated between the three performers on the stage.

LeyMendoza, artiste de cirque, et Tanja Haput,multiinstrumentiste, se trouvent pour créer unspectacle —dirigé par lʼinfortuné clown JoanBusquets— où la musique et les techniques decirque sʼunissent pour créer un monde pleinde magie et de poésie. Company created in 2003 by three artists trained in the Geneva Circus School and the National School in Moscow. Thisspectacle, performed in their own tent, uses the clown as an expression and does without words. They apply such techni-ques as acrobatics, juggling, the Chinese pole or balancing, with an industrial-style setting and live music.
Compagnie créée en 2003 par trois artistes formés à lʼÉcole de Cirque de Genève et à lʼÉcole Nationale de Moscou. Ce spectacle représenté sous son pro-pre chapiteau, utilise la clownerie comme expression et se passe de la parole. Différentes techniques y sont appliquées telles que les acrobaties, la jongle-rie, le mât chinois ou les équilibres avec une scénographie de type industriel et de la musique en direct.

Created in 2007, the Cia. Daraomai is the result of the personal and artisticcareers of three actors trained in the Rogelio Rivel Circus School and spe-cialised in acrobatics in the Fratellini School in Paris and also Moscow. Takingthe apple as a symbolic reference as a fruit of perfection and knowledge, theybuild a spectacle filled with humour and poetry, in which acrobatic techniquesand physical power are put to the service of beauty, movement and plasticity.

Deados is an acrobatic duet made up of Andreti & Sopapo. With busy solo ca-reers, their paths crossed a couple of years ago in Berlin and, after meeting againin Barcelona, they decided to work together on the stage. Now they invite us tosubmerge ourselves in a series of scenes from everyday life, taking a trip throughimpossible acrobatics, full of humour, body language and poetry.

Six dancers and three percussionists perform this entertaining and colouristic spec-tacle for all audiences that combines the worlds of dance, music and architecture. Va-rious pieces of children’s construction at a human scale are the principal elements ofthis contemporary street dance proposal that uses the forms, volume and movementto configure a veritable feast for the senses.

Chocolat! takes us back to New York in the 1930s, a time ofcrisis, decadence, scarcity... Female vocal trios filled the airwaves and the few sta-ges that were still open. Sofia, Nicole and Lulú fascinate us with their voices and cho-reographies. All this accompanied by their inseparable band of musicians.

Since 2000, this company has been working in the production of street theatre spectacles combining theatre,clowns, puppets and circus. In Éxodo, three women drag circular structures on a journey that seems endless. Aproposal that mixes dance, acrobatics, physical theatre, clown, humour and ritual, with a heavy symbolism. A re-flection about displaced people who have to abandon their homeland, about the present and future of our world.
Depuis lʼan 2000 cette compagnie travaille à la production de spectacles de rue qui mêlent le théâtre, les clowns, les marionnettes et le cir-que. Dans Éxodo, trois femmes traînent des structures circulaires au long dʼun voyage qui semble ne jamais finir. Une proposition qui entre-mêle danse, acrobatie, théâtre physique, clown, humour et rituel avec une importante charge symbolique. A troupe of comedians passing through the town set themselves up in a squareto perform their repertoire. This is a multidisciplinary street proposal, with a mar-ked choral character, and with a Gothic style that harks back to the characters ofTim Burton or the aesthetics of Edward Gorey. Gestural theatre, masks, songs,tales, confessions, humour and complicity with the audience are the main re-sources of this young company made up of ex-students from the Theatre Institute.
Une troupe de comédiens de passage dans la ville, sʼinstalle sur une place pour y dérouler son réper-toire. Voici une proposition multidisciplinaire de rue avec un caractère choral marqué et une esthétiquegothique qui rappelle les personnages de Tim Burton ou lʼesthétique dʼEdward Gorey. Théâtre gestuel,masques, chansons, contes, confessions, humour et la complicité du public sont les ressources prin-cipales de cette jeune compagnie formée par des ex-élèves de lʼInstitut du Théâtre.
An itinerant proposal for all ages, with a large 4-metre wheel moved by the crea-tive force of the music and the inventiveness of its makers. Four musicians in cir-cular movement in a musical waterwheel that moves forward bar by bar and playswith the complicity of the passers-by. Factoria Circular was founded by César Al-varez (Palo q’Sea) to create his own multidisciplinary projects.

Inspired in the universe of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nightʼs Dream, Udamina is a proposal for thestreet that reflects on the passing of time and the nature of cycles. In the same line as their recent works(Otsoko, 2008), the spectacle uses various disciplines and evolves through a visual and oral narrative,based on the seasons of the year, to introduce us into a magic world of dreams and transformations.
Inspiré de lʼunivers de El somni d’una nit d’estiu (Le songe dʼune nuit dʼété) de William Shakespeare, Udamina est une proposition derue qui réfléchit sur le passage du temps et la cyclicité. Dans la ligne de ses derniers travaux (Otsoko, 2008), le spectacle se sert de di-verses disciplines et évolue à travers une narration visuelle et orale fondée sur les saisons de lʼannée qui nous introduït dans un mondemagique de rêves et de transformations.
Guillem Albà sets his second montage (the first was Sketchofrènia (2007)) withthe musical participation on the stage of Always Drinking, with whom he has co-llaborated in recent years, and directed by Jordi Purtí. Flirt! is a clown spectaclethat takes place in musical scenes and tells the story of an antihero who showsus his interior world in his search for his love. This spectacle was in creative re-sidence in Tàrrega in the spring of 2010.
Guillem Albà concrétise son second montage de facture propre –le premier fut Sketchofrènia (2007)–,avec la participation musicale sur scène de lʼAlways Drinking, avec laquelle il a collaboré ces derniè-res années et avec la direction de Jordi Purtí. Flirt! est un spectacle de clown qui se déroule sur desscènes musicales et qui explique lʼhistoire dʼun anti-héros qui nous révèle son monde intérieur à larecherche de son amour. Ce spectacle a été en résidence créative à Tàrrega au printemps 2010.

The project Tandarica Orkestar arose in 2004 as an itinerant circus and Balkan music show.Now, the well-known clown Jango Edwards has joined that initial proposal characterised asa Gypsy patriarch and commander of a group of ten musicians and actors to offer a streetspectacle with clowns, juggling, acrobatics and mobile artefacts that remind us of the uni-verse of Emir Kusturica. A proposal for all ages, full of humour and energy.
Le projet Tandarica Orkestar naquit en 2004 en tant quʼitinérant de cirque et musique balkanique. Maintenant le fa-meux clown Jango Edwards sʼest joint à la proposition initiale, caractérisé en patriarche gitan qui commande unetroupe de dix musiciens et acteurs afin dʼoffrir un spectacle de rue avec clown, jonglerie, acrobatie et engins mobi-les qui nous rappelle lʼunivers dʼEmir Kusturica. Une proposition pour tous les publics pleine dʼhumour et dʼénergie.

Habitaculum is the second spectacle by Kamchatka that owes a great deal totheir first and very successful montage (Kamchàtka) that visited FiraTàrrega in2007 and has done a very long international tour. The proposal (Laboratori deCreació, FiraTàrrega 2010), again directed by Adrian Schvarzstein and presen-ted as an interior spectacle in the incomparable setting of the old Cal Trepat fac-tory, goes into the universe around the phenomenon of migration and talks abouthow, once established, the newcomers adapt their customs and experiences tothe reality that surrounds them. In an emotive journey through the intimate worldof some people seeking better living conditions, but also want to integrate them-selves and find their place in a new culture.
Habitaculum est le second spectacle de Kamchatka qui sʼabreuve en grande partie à son montage an-térieur, très réussi (Kamchàtka) qui avait rendu visite à FiraTàrrega en 2007 et a fait une très ample tour-née internationale. Colacrai and Albuerne began their joint career with the street dance and circus duoGira, in 2006. This won the Section Decouverte Prize at the Festival de Rue de Ra-monville’06. Now they propose a new place where dance, acrobatics and music in thestreet come together, with a fresh, entertaining family spectacle that reflects on the “mo-ments of happiness” and is inspired in the character of Ultimo, created by AlessandroBaricco in his book Questa Storia.
Colacrai et Albuerne commencèrent leur trajectoire ensemble avec le duo de danse et cirque de rue Gira, en2006, qui reçut le Prix Section Découverte au Festival de Rue de Ramonvilleʼ06. Lean-dre Ribera, with a 13-year career creating street spectacles, has managed to turn publicspaces into his natural habitat and has earned him a name in the international field.

After Lʼaigua (2007) based on texts by Jesús Moncada and Magnòlies curtes (2008), an adaptationof Mercè Rodoreda, this young company takes on a forceful text by Ferdinand Brückner about the re-lations between seven young people and the confusion that they feel as they grow up in a lost society,that of Germany between the wars (20th century). A proposal that leaves no room for artifice and isbased on acting work. A story that is perfectly present and transferable to the reality of our times.
Après L’aigua (2007) basé sur des textes de Jesús Moncada et Magnòlies curtes (2008) adaptation de Mercè Rodoreda, cettejeune compagnie fait face à un texte frappant de Ferdinand Brückner, qui parle des relations de sept jeunes et de la confusion queleur cause le passage à lʼâge adulte dans une société perdue de lʼAllemagne dans la période dʼentre-deux-guerres (XXes). Uneproposition qui ne laisse pas de place à lʼartifice et qui est fondée sur le travail de lʼacteur. Une histoire parfaitement actuelle ettransportable à la réalité de nos jours.

A company who first appeared with Lo sainet del senyor rector (2006), an irreverent staging in a cara-van. Now, with Circumloqui they propose an itinerant puppet show that mixes black humour, home-madeengineering and live music. The Circ Circumloqui has installed their ring on a motorised tricycle and areready to perform in the streets with magic and balancing, the strong man, the lion tamer and the incre-dible Nadó Bala, the only boy who can fly more than 50 metres.

Inspired in The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer (1340-1400), this spec-tacle links together several stories. With a multidisciplinary scenic treatment (texttheatre, puppets, objects, Fregolism, etc.), three actors play a large number ofcharacters, on a journey of dreams and delirious imagination in which the cha-racter of the writer goes in search of inspiration for his masterwork.
Inpiré des Contes de Canterbury, de lʼauteur anglais Geoffrey Chaucer (1340-1400), ce spectacle estun travail où sʼ enchaînent différentes histoires. 1.- Quelle est l̓ origine de votre intérêt pour les créations dans des espaces spécifiques?On peut y faire des numéros qui apparaissent comme une chanson et une danse soudainesdans un musical. Jʼaime vraiment le fait que la réalité et mes créations puissent être si proches.2.- De nos jours il existe en Hollande une série de créateurs (Lotte van den Berg, GuidoKleene, Dries Verhoeven, vous-même) qui sont très intéressés par les représentationsdans des lieux non conventionnels et les endroits publics en général. Est-ce par hasardou y a-t-il un lien?Nous sommes à peu près de la même génération. Une génération qui tout dʼun coup nʼa plusdédié ses talents à diriger le répertoire mondial mais a senti le besoin de créer ses propres his-toires. En même temps, nous vivons dans un monde déjà surchargé dʼhistoires, informationset opinions. Pourquoi devrions-nous en ajouter de nouvelles? Au lieu de cela nous avons dé-cidé de regarder différemment le monde qui est déjà là3.- Quʼest-ce que le public de Tàrrega va trouver dans votre spectacle?Cʼest un spectacle qui semble arriver par coïncidence. Il sʼagit dʼaccepter notre propre solitudeexistentielle.4.- La situation de votre spectacle nʼest absolument pas arbitraire. Quel rôle cela joue-t-il dans lʼensemble du spectacle?Dans un sens le lieu de notre représentation nʼexiste pas. Cʼest seulement à cause de notreconstruction que l̓ on peut le définir comme quelque chose qui a un intérieur et un extérieur. Jecherche des lieux qui soient au-delà du normal. Je prends une partie de la réalité pour fabriquerune autre réalité derrière celle qui est visible. Pendant toute la durée du spectacle le lieu nousmaintient en contact avec nos propres vies qui nous ont menés là. On peut dire que l̓ endroitrend le spectacle concret et surréel à la fois.5.- Quʼest-ce que le fait récent, de travailler avec le prestigieux Ro Theatre à Rotterdamsignifie pour votre carrière professionnelle? 1 – What was the origin of your interest in creation inspecific sites?There you can make performances that appear as a sud-den song and dance in a musical. I really like the fact thatreality and my creations can come so close.
2- Nowadays, there is a series of creators in Holland(Lotte van den Berg, Guido Kleene, Dries Verhoeven,yourself) who are very interested in non-conven-tional venues and public places in general. Is thisjust by chance or is there a link?We are more or less from the same generation. A gen-eration that suddenly didn’t dedicate its talent to directingthe world’s repertoire, but had the urge to create theirown stories. At the same time we live in a world that is al-ready overloaded with stories, information and opinions.Why should we add new ones? Instead of that we did tryto let us look again at the world which is already there.
3- What will the audience in Tàrrega find in yourshow?It’s a show that seems to happen by co-incidence. It’s
about accepting our existential solitude.
4- The location of the venue for your Broeders is inno way arbitrary. What role does this play in thespectacle as a whole?In a way, our venue is a place that doesn’t exist. Onlythrough our construction you can define it as somethingwith an inside and outside. I am looking for places whichare supernormal. I take a part of reality to make anotherreality behind this visible. During the show the locationkeeps us connected with our own lives that brought usthere. You can say that the location makes the show con-crete and surreal at the same time.
5- What does it mean for your career collaborating inthe artistic management of the prestigious Ro The-ater in Rotterdam with Alize Zandwijk?It’s a challenge. How can I work on this wider scale, with-out losing my own artistic identity? But I really like that inmy work it is no longer only about me. And not least, it’sinspiring to work so closely with Alize Zandwijk

At the end of the Second World War, Russian soldiers confiscated hundreds of German pianos to send back home. Oncethey had been gathered together, the Russians unexpectedly decided to throw them into a lake in northern Poland. Fromthis anecdote, that symbolises the collapse of culture in times of war, the Polish Teatr Strefa have built a hypnotic spec-tacle with six pianos and twelve performers, which combines circus approaches, grotesque clown, dance-theatre andmusic to build a profoundly beautiful and striking metaphor.
Á la fin de la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale, les soldats russes confisquèrent des centaines de pianos allemands pour les envoyer dans leur pays. Une foisceux-ci réunis, de façon inattendue, les russes décidèrent de les jeter dans un lac au nord de la Pologne. À partir de cette anecdote qui symbolise lʼeffon-drement de la culture en temps de guerre, les polonais Teatr Strefa élaborent un spectacle hypnotique avec six pianos et douze interprètes qui mêle unexposé de cirque, de clown grotesque, de danse-théâtre et de musique pour présenter une métaphore profondément belle et saisissante.

With a professional career of over twelve years, the Aragonese Teatro Chey Moche have specialised in combining music and theatre. Jeune compagnie de danse des Baléares qui depuis sa formation en 2006 a produit cinq spectacles qui ont obtenu une grandereconnaissance et plusieurs prix. A Dutch company that visited Tàrrega with their spectacles Clockwork and Guerilla (2005), who specialise in provocativeand entertaining performances. Now they present their latest work, an itinerant full of action and movement, packed withabsurd and extreme characters who push a curious vehicle made with tractor wheels. A journey open to the improvisa-tion of some outlandish characters who interact with the audience and the street furniture they find on their route.
