CompensationHiring Range: $91,600 - $121,500. The hiring rate is based upon qualifications.

Insurance: Available medical plans includes choice of two point of service plans. Additional medical coverage is available for cancer, intensive care, andvision care. Dental options are also available.

Retirement: The employee contributes 8 percent and the city contributes 12.8 percent of the employee’s salary to the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association.

Social Security: The city of Boulder does not participate in Social Security. Employees contribute 1.45 percent of their gross income to Medicare with a match by the city.

Vacation: Employees at the Director’s level accrue 23 days per year with less than four years of service, and up to 29 days per year after four years.

Sick Leave: Employees accrue 14 sick days per year.

Holiday: 12 days per year plus three floating holidays.

Library DirectorThe City of Boulder seeks a seasoned professional with a record of success at shaping the culture of a complex organization, and leading it to a new level of excellence.

The Library Director will inspire his/her team to achieve goals, creating a spirit of shared focus in which each person is responsible for performance directed at the overall team success. With a sense of future possibilities and a perspective based on real-istic possibilities, the Director will create strategies capable of positioning the library to meet the needs of both present and future generations of users.

In order to provide exceptional library services and arts and cultural programs, the Director is expected to provide strong leadership (internal and external) for the BPL system and implement the vision, mission, goals and strategies of the Library Master Plan.

Responsible for providing library education and promotion with the Community, the Director provides professional guidance and acts as a key member of the City Manager’s management team, and a policy advisor to the City Manager, Deputy City Manager, City Council, Library Commission, Arts Commission, and other committees and public groups in a complex political environment.

The ideal Candidate…Is an effective, and visible leader in the community and works collaboratively with the library’s senior management team, City Manager, elected officials, Library Commission, the Library Foundation, and other key community groups and stakeholders in achieving library goals and objectives.

Will have the ability to engage staff eagerly in the achievement of the community vision for excellence in delivering library services and integrating cutting edge ideas with the strong traditions of Boulder Public Library.

Is able to develop, communicate and implement a shared vision of future library services within the Library staff and the community.

Will demonstrate his/her ability to navigate seamlessly in a complex environment, involving differing expectations of community leaders, staff members and patrons, understanding the need to reconcile disparate points of view.

Will build relationships with people both inside and outside the organization, developing a genuine rapport with many constituencies.

Will be forthright, and quick to manage difficult situations, providing firm and direct feedback, even in challenging circumstances.

Supports the city’s sustainability goals (economic, environmental and social) by ensuring that sustainability is incorporated into the work and the efforts of the library.

Has a demonstrated record of effective fiscal management skills.

Is effective in promoting and working with private entities and generating support for its services.

Is a confident and comfortable public speaker who can cultivate partnerships with local schools, universities, non-profits and organizations in the private sector.

Is a proven leader in the public or non-profit sector with experience in board/commission relationships, managing and creating innovative services, managing and developing staff, fostering relation-ships with engaged stakeholders and customers, and developing revenue sources.

QualificationsFully qualified candidates should have a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Library and Information Sciences or in a related field, and at least eight years of managing and/or leading as a senior manager or Chief Executive Officer in a complex organization, and/or equivalent education and experience.
