Intentions

What I am proving What I am exploring

What I am investigating What I am challenging

I will be proving that driving without insurance can have an affect on people. Also that young people tend to drive

without insurance. I will inform the

audience a lot on car insurance. I will also consider that car insurance has increased a lot and it would have an affect on young people in the UK. Teenagers at the age of 17-24years old are likely to drive without insurance and they are having accidents.

I will be exploring how insurance has affected young people in Britain. Also the cost of insurance for 17-24years olds. I will be also looking at why people drive without insurance. I would be exploring the danger that driving without insurance can have an effect on young people. I will looking at how they can get advice on cheaper car insurance.

I am investigating the cost of insurance has affected people in Britain and that more teenagers are currently driving without insurance due to the increase of the cost. Why people drive without insurance. How people drive without insurance.

I will find out a lot of information and understanding on how insurance has affected young people in Britain.

Content of Idea

Key questions my documentary will answer:

What are the affects of insurance? Will insurance cost ever decrease?

Why does insurance have an affect on young people in Britain? How I will be doing this: I will be doing this by interviewing young people , driving instructor, insurance company and an MP . The reason why I have chosen to film experts is because they know a lot of information which is very useful and will inform and educate the audience more about my angle. They will provide information which is relevant to the audience. This would not make the audience loose interest as it would be the truth. Experts also can encourage young people in the UK to drive with insurance as they provide with educational information and support their answers by proving statistics of the increase of car insurance. They would also present it in a formal mode of address as they want the target audience to be more aware and be drawn in to the angle more. The reason why I will be interviewing young people is because they will give their opinions and it would relate on similar opinions to what the target audience would say. Young people also would encourage my target audience to drive with insurance this is because they will give honest opinions. They will be different point of views from people who are between the age range of 17-24years olds. People who are learning how to drive and are considering about insurance. This is because they will give different point of view they will have more to say as they are at the stage of insuring their car.

Content of Idea

My Topic is going to be about driving . I will be looking are car insurance. In my unique selling point I will have young people aged 17-24years old involved. I will have facts and statistics. This topic is discussed much in the media therefore for me to create this documentary it would be exceptional. It will also create a real interest towards the audience and it would encourage them not to drive without insurance as there will be facts to educate the on the affects of driving without insurance could lead to. Its very clear and I think the audience would want to watch it many times. My arguments that I will explore in my documentary is the increase of insurance can lead young people in the UK to not insure their car. It is important they are insured because if they don’t their will be serious punishments and disqualification on driving their vehicle.

Profile of target audience and appeal of your idea

My target audience is targeted to males and females the reason why I have chosen this is because driving is targeted to both genders. It also meets the BBC brief and it is important as it would make my documentary appeal to both genders instead of one. The age group is 17-24years olds. This is also chosen because it is the BBC brief and they would be watching programmes at 7:00am-9:00pm on BBC three. The location is set in the UK this is because insurance has increased in this country and nowhere else. Also my target audience live the UK. My audience would be interested in cars, and watching documentaries on cars they also interested in going out with mates watching movies there hobbies are playing sports like football, badminton and going to the gym. The socio- economic group of my audience is D and E this is because they don’t have a good job. They are still in education such as college. Targeted to all ethnicities to make it equal and so that no one is left out. Disposable income for my audience is £190 a month. This is how much the spend this is for gadgets, travel, clothing, food etc. They are in full time education some study at college and some work. My audience find out about the news on the metro, daily mail, they watch Eastenders, hollyoaks, xfactor, topgear, the one show and apprentice. They likelto watch these programmes because it entertains them and informs them. The news educates them aswell as informing them about what's going on around the world. My documentary is targeted to a mainstream audience this is because people aged 16-24years old drive and own a car. There is also a lot of people in the UK who have there licence.

Commercial Viability

The market I have researched similar documentaries which are similar to mine and have same audience for my documnetary. They are Top gear, Panarama, The click, and BBC news. My product will be unique as it will consist experts and it will have most of my target audience involved in vox pops. It will target everyone as it is mainstream. Defamation

How it could affect your product negatively?

• It could affect my documentary negatively because if I was to accuse someone about driving without insurance in my documentary it could lead my documentary to be unsuccessful and less people would want to watch it. It would also make the person look bad towards the public and can lead to negative views on the person. However I would not accuse someone that hasn’t driven without insurance and state the negative side of them in my documentary because I would be breaking the media law.

Copyright

How it could affect your product negatively?

• It could affect my documentary negatively because I will use copyright materials from the internet when it comes to use videos from YouTube and when I use music and images from the internet it will be highly important for me to ask permission because I would be destroying the reputation of the person who produced it.

Page 14: Final Treatment

BBC editorial guidelines

Truth and Accuracy

Children

This will affect my documentary negatively because I cannot make up facts and figures it would lead my documentary to be unsuccessful. It would not make it reliable for my audience to watch. They will not be educated on accurate information. I also cannot film experts who don’t give me the statistics accurately this is because I would mislead my audience and they would not trust it. I will not be using wiki to get my facts and statistics this is because the information provided is not correct and other people can import random information which then could create a huge problem to my documentary as the audience would be taught information which is wrong and not making any sense. Finally it would be breaking the MEDIA LAW.

This would affect my documentary negatively because I will have footage of accidents this will be unsuitable for children. If I was to film an expert and they use strong language it will affect my documentary. As the media law insists not have strong language which can then lead children in applying it this would create a huge impact towards them.

Page 15: Final Treatment

OFCOM’s Regulations

Criminality

This will effect my documentary negatively because I will show young people driving without insurance I will also show how young people come across to insurance fraud. This will influence my target audience to do it and also young people would want to do it. I will also be showing young people driving without insurance. Reconstructions

This will effect my documentary negatively because I will not be able to demonstrate to the audience information which has not happened. I therefore must take in consideration that I do not pretend someone else is an expert. When I come to film experts I must consider that they don’t make up what has happened from the past. This will would lead my audience to not watch my documentary as it is not telling them the truth of what has actually happened in the past.

Page 16: Final Treatment

The Market

Distribution and Exhibition I would broadcast my documentary on weekdays because this where other BBC three programmes are on and programmes which are related to my topic such as Panorama is broadcasted on weekdays on BBC Three. I have looked at four documentaries which have similar text to mine. The programmes which fit in my topic is Click, BBC news, Top gear., panorama. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b012s1xj/Panorama_The_Great_Car_Insurance_Swindle/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14878424 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/9609884.stm They are competing with my documentary because they have young people for vox pops, upbeat music, facts and statistics. I would broadcast my documentary on a weekday that will be on Monday I will broadcast it at 9:30pm this is because most of my audience watch Eastenders after this time. This would make them want to watch it.

Unique selling point The unique selling point of my idea is that it will have the cost of insurance and the affects of insurance in Britain. I will also have a lot of information that they need to know. It Covers the important aspect of insurance cost. I will have different camera angles. My documentary targets a mainstream audience. My product will also be unique as it will consist insurance company, MP, Driving instructor and solicitor and it will have most of my target audience involved in vox pops. It will target everyone as it is mainstream.
