Research has shown that theoptimum number oftrustees/directors depends onthe size of the organisation.A board should be largeenough to get the board’swork done yet small enoughto work effectively as a teamto communicate, deliberateand function as a cohesivegroup.

Across various research, theoptimal number is in therange of 6-12 members.

A number of iwi entities willmake up the group with thePSGE being the main or parententity.

There are various reasons whyseparate entities within thegroup are formed.
