Early life and Family

Nandan M. Nilekani was born in Banglore on June 2, 1955 into a Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin family, as the younger son of Durga and Mohan Rao Nilekani.

Both Nandan and his brother, Vijay, who is elder to Nandan by 8 years, spent their early childhood here

Their father worked as a General Manager of Mysore and Minerva Mills.

Vijay lives in Washington D.C where he works in the nuclear energy institute.

Personal life

Nandan Nilekani

is married

to Rohini, whom he met at a quizzing event at

IIT.

They have two children

Nihar and Janhavi,

both studying at Yale

University.

Rohini worked as a journalist

and is actively involved

with several

non- profit organizatio

ns in Bangalore.

She has also set up an

endowment fund

Arghyam that

supports endeavors in

health, education,

and in equity access to

water for all.

Career and Professional Life

Graduated from IIT Bombay 1978

Joined Mumbai based ‘Patni Computer Systems’ .

After working 3 years in Patni computers, he started own company “Infosys” with Narayan Murthy and other 5 members.

He become the CEO of Infosys, taking over from Narayan Murthy in March 2002 and remain CEO upto April 2007.

of Indian rupee equailent to US $1.3

billion.

In 2009 Times magzine placed

Early life and Personal Details

Born into a Kannada Madhwa Brahmin

family in Mysore on August 20, 1946.

He came from a poor but

educated family.

His father was a high-school teacher and an avid reader of English literature.

His wife, Sudha Murthy, is an Indian social worker and

accomplished author. She is known for her philanthropic

work through the Infosys Foundation.

They have two children - Rohan

and Akshata.

He started his carrier at IIM

Ahmadabad as chief system Programmer

where he work on time-sharing

system.

After IIM Ahmadabad, he

joined Patni Computer

System in Pune.

In 1981 with an investment of

Rs.10000 ($259 at that time)

from his wife, he found

infosys with 6 other

professionals.

Under his leadership Infosys was

listed on NASDAQ in

1999.
